Help me clear the mud please!
« on: September 26, 2013, 05:19:27 PM »
I'm trying to figure out how many parts I need to swap on my Yugo to make it compliant. The spreadsheet only accomodates a chinese sks? The drop down if there is one doesn't work. Anyhoo. I have replaced the stock with a Choate Monte Carlo and am using the original handguard with gas tube (because I didn't want to mutilate the tube getting the pin out). Replaced the gas valve with a Murrays valve and I have taken off the bayonette, but left the lug. That is all I have done. So how many parts do I need to replace? One for my stock, so I need ten more parts? Geez

 Basically, if your Yugo is a 59/66 with the grenade launcher attachement, is has 1 more part than a Chinese; you need to replace 5 of the listed parts;

You have replaced 1 of the listed parts (the stock) so you need to replace 4 more parts.

  Its that simple.

You didn't say but I assume the reason you are doing this is that you want to use detachable mags ... correct?

What I want is for it to be legal. I know that the odds of some blowhard ATF guy walking up and seizing my weapon on the range is very low, but I would like to know for sure. I really don't want to use mags if I don't have to.

Thanks for the help.

OK four more parts. Handguard with gas tube and a detachable mag should do it?

You misunderstood the direction of my remark.

WHAT are you changing on your SKS to make it NEED to be 922r COMPLIANT ?

Hence my guess (above) you want to use detachable mags.
If so .. well ok then I get it.

Understood?

I really don't want to use mags if I don't have to.

As issued both the M59 and M59/66 Yugo SKS is legal in most areas of the US.
To that changing out an item such as the fixed mag for detachable mags would throw it into one needing to make it 922r compliant.

Yup; detachable mag (2 parts) handguard (1 part) plus the stock you already replaced (1 part) and you are good to go.....

I know that some of this stuff can be confusing especially at first, but it sounds like you've got a good handle on it. 8)

Wait, if it's a Yugo he needs to replace 5 parts. The detachable mag is 2, handguard is 1 and the stock is 1 as you pointed out but that's only 4, he needs 1 more doesn't he? Personally I'd just ditch the monte carlo stock and put the wood stock back on it and forget this whole deal as Fragger was saying but if that's not an option I think he still needs one more part. See if you can find a USA made gas piston and you are all set. Should be about $20 plus shipping and a 5 second swap out. There is a guy selling them on eBay I think.

Check eBay for USA made gas pistons.
I just bought one off a feller named cobra? And it works great in my Chinese.
