Dented rounds from action

(1/2) > >>

branflakes:
Went to the range yesterday. Saw survivors shooting challenge.  More on that somewhere else.

I picked up some spent casings, or rather the lane shield kept some on the bench, and I noticed scratches and dents. Wasn't so concerned about it kinda went huh. Looked at another and it was also damaged in a similar fashion but so was the neck of the casing.  Is the action of the rifle doing this? Magazine? If it dents the bullet while loading it will affect accuracy and I would guess other functions.

Hodgie:
It’s common for AK’s to do that. Pretty sure it’s the extractor claw that’s doing it when it pulled it out of the chamber. I’ve seen it on at least one on my AK’s.

SweaT-Rex:
I've never seen an ejected case from any of my AK's that wasn't dented.  I think case mouth dents are typically from hitting the ejector on the way out.  I only shoot brass out of mine, & they get beat up a lot worse than steel does.

yep, it also does that to a  5.56mm AK, my SLR106ur beats the bejesus  out the brass casing

old tom:
My SVT-40 would put a BIG dent in the center of the case from the op rod. My SAFN does the same thing, but to a lesser extent, since I got the gas system calibrated for modern ammo.
