Its been dry
« on: August 03, 2024, 09:35:48 PM »
So we get a lot of this this time of year.

Lightening started one fire, and they suspect a car or cigarette  started another and they combined with some 30mph wind and teens humidity to grow to 26000 acres in one night, started to have some containment today.  We can see the smoke from my house, and we are 50 miles from it.  Our house rep lost their family ranchstead to it I hear.

Stay safe man.

We had something similar happen in the Everglades a few months ago. I was driving home and saw this in the distance.

It's been dry here also.
No fires though, fortunately.
We just got rain Thursday night, first in quite awhile.
I haven't mowed grass since June.

I'm the meantime, in the Gulf Coast areas, they're playing "Debbie Does Florida" all weekend.

SOKY has been hot and really wet this Summer,  but I figure we'll get our turn with wildfires and some point... I dread it.

Stay safe OP.  I hope the wind doesn't blow in your direction!

We?ve had a pretty good monsoon this year keeping the fires down. I saw the hills burning a couple of weeks ago on my way to Benson from Bisbee. A couple hours later a nice rain storm rolled through and put it out. Strangely, this same set of hills was on fire about 8-10 years ago so they had a lot less fuel on them than the adjacent areas.

Think I posted some pics of the fires that came close to the house some years back. Kinda scary. Hoping the wind doesn?t shift on you OP and y?all get some rain soon.

No worries about this one getting close to me, we already had one a lot closer a couple weeks ago but all we got was smoke.

Tried to drive some wooden stakes to mark corners for a building.

Wouldn't drive, ground is like concrete.

Will try rebar pins tomorrow.

Just read an update , 90% contained, but has burned 82 square miles now. Fortunately it more North into sparsely populated areas instead of south into the towns near it, but gonna be tough for a lot of the ranchers who lost pastures this time of year.
