Spent the day getting the Timbersmith stock mated to my SKS.
Pulled the hand guard off a spare gas tube.
A little fitting at the ferrules, shimmed the cross bolt up about 0.030", a little bedding to tighten up the rear, and relieved the stock for the Techsight.  Fits really snug and solid now. 
This is really a nice stock. I love it.

Looks like it will see some range action this weekend

Has anyone had the notion to compile "accuracy" data for the SKS's present at the shoot.

It would be fun to have a comparative standard for when the recurring post topic of "How well does a SKS shoot? " comes along.

Just like a chronometer,  High low Extreme, Average and Spread. etc.....  ;-)

Would take some of the Fun out of it.
Besides, we have a range of shooters, some practiced in prone shooting, some not, and different kinds of ammo, even borrowed and guns in a range of mechanical condition. 

We were going to conduct an experiment with bayo out/bayo in.  I even brought 200 rounds of GT to use.  We do so much that fitting another event in is complicated. 
It's fun.  The point is to get as many in to compete as possible. 
I would like to see more of the women children and old farts compete
There's usually only a couple husband and wife teams.  Ranger and Tracy are so busy they don't have time to stop.

From a pure mechanical accuracy standpoint you need to take the human element out, ideally with a heavy gun vise like a lead sled or something...
SKSs, in good condition, usually shoot between 3-5 MOA in such tests, at least the ones I've seen


The human element is the predominant factor in the competition.. 
And the occasional blessing of dumb luck, hence somebody like me actually wins every once and awhile..

The Benchmark is how well the shooter improves from one shoot to the next. 
There are some that are shooting the SKS for the first time. 
6 months later they are better, a year later even better yet. 

Take the 'Long Range' (just a measly 450 yds) for example. 
The wife and I never get to shoot that far, except at the shoots. 
This was only our third time and the wife even beat Roger

From what I've read, in all the "big time" shooting competitions, 600 yards and under is now the realm of the 5.56
