Chinese repeating crossbow

(1/1)

Uncle Billy:
made this several years ago, like 8 or so, I saw a documentary about  ancient weapons,  there was a segment about Chinese repeating crossbows. that was designed around 400 BCE and was used all the way to the boxer rebellion 1900 CE.

it was was a very simple and effective design........it won't win any marksmanship awards, but it wasn't meant for that......when you have several thousand troops armed with these  raining down bolts down on the enemy at a rate of 10 bolts in 20 seconds per crossbow,  it will defiantly put a hurt on them, producing  a whole lot of casualties. if it doesn't  outright kill them the tips were coated in poison so that  even a minor wound would kill a man in a day or two.

so as a winter project I decided to make one  :). I made the magazine a bit larger the the typical 10 bolt to  15 bolts capacity. when I tested it, the bolt went out  to way past 200 meters, if  the angle was just right......only thing that I couldn't make was  the string, a friend of mine knew someone that made bows and strings so made the correct length of string for me, here she is  :);

if you guys are looking for something to make for a winter project, there are plans out there for you to make one for yourselves  :)

for those that have never seen one shoot, a small clip, and no that is not me  :lol:

 This thing has ROCKETVAPOR written all over it as a project.....

Onepoint:
You always wonder how much trial and error it took to create one out of thin air.  I can be clever once in a while and make things, but something like that I would probably just scrap after a few failed tries and just use a bow.
