Last Hunting Bucket gun.... Finnished.
« on: October 30, 2025, 04:59:44 PM »
As you all may have guessed, I dont do these forums much at all these days. Seems I get ALOT more done in my shop working at times to midnight rather than chit chatting away what little time this 66 year old has left.
Now this here brag on this piece is in my opinion worth passing around since I'v never seen any thing like it..... Ever. On top of that, it checks all my love boxes except the crescent butt..... I'll make an exception there. This was Love at first sight as I stumbled on it in GB. Then if that's not enough, I was the ONLY bidder! At $1300 OTD, its one of very few over 1K buys. Yes, it had issues like a loose lock up but that didn't deter me in the least. So, My plans for this combo gun was to line the Damascus 12g bore (pitted) with a 22" 28g Akar pump barrel I had. Chrome bore with Tubes. It's choked OD end was slightly smaller in diameter than the 12g ID. Originally the barrels were 28" with a bad front sight bead and no rear sight in a dovetail that I covered up with a Remington rear sight ramp. The rifle barrel was a pre 1900 obsolete 10.75mm that was something like a necked down 45-70. I bored all the rifling out to its .445 groove diameter and made a sleeve out of a heavy varmint SS 25-06 barrel that was some ones custom install on a Rem 700. I chambered it in 25-35 Win. Both sleeves were glued in and set out to a friction fit to the breach face. That solved the bad head space issue. The finished gun shoots very well with the few rounds I'v fired. The 25-35 rounds I fired are 6.5x52R S&B's that gave me a near 3 rd clover leaf group at my 40 yard test target. The fiber optic sights are the only reason this will go in the woods next month for a white tail. Brennike makes 28g slugs and I have some coming. The 275g slugs hit close range similar to a 44mag. So from my tree stand, either one could do the job. Nough said. Heres the art gallery......

The combo gun was made no latter than 1893 by Christoph Funk as a special order in Suhl Germany.

Man, that's pretty boss xt, beautiful weapon. At 66 you're just a youngster with time to waste. You done good in your move and projects.
I'd boggy out of Kali to the Idaho Panhandle but it's too late in the game for me, so I just visit a lot. Plus, after 7 decades or running renegade, I'm hooked up and can sidestep when needed. PAX

Isn't that pretty though.

That's a work of art XT!  That sure would be handy on the Frontier.

Nice work, about the only thing I'm not a fan of is the high vis sights. They look a little out of place on an older rifle. Otherwise she's a looked. Hopefully she shoots as well as she looks.

Yeah, I hear you there. I had considerable consternation over the sights. Keep it old world or go practical..... I kicked it around for a while. I have a copy of a folding leaf that would be similar to what was in the dove tail but the dove tail in the rib is way, way forward. I just barely cover it entirely with the front of the Rem ramp. So a notch way the heck up there would be impossible to find in low light. My top goal was to get the most accuracy out of the gun in hunting situations. When weighing that in, unfortunately, originality had to take a back seat. Those fiber optic sights sure do build confidence in a clean shot when there is only faint color on the western horizon. Here in TN I'm able to take 2 bucks and 3 antlerless deer during rifle with no permit or even license as on Land owner land. For 60 bucks I bought the life time everything Senior license anyway. TN is forcing me to put Venison in my freezer. Sitting in the woods idle for hours on end gives me the restless hebie gebies. THIS particular rifle gives me something to look at while I wait for a volunteer target.  :sniper

Nice build X, something to be proud of.

Our skills become more refined with age, at least mine have. At 67 I really enjoy projects because of it. Strength is the real issue but I?ve learned how to move things in a different way that doesn?t hurt! Keep on chuggin? and thanks for keeping us updated on your mad skilz!!

Melting it is not such a problem, its getting it to puddle up right that's the trick.   :)

I hear ya there. Oddly I was running how hard it would be to make a sight cover going through my head. Blued steel and brass to match for a small cover.
