Do you have a Sneaky rifle?
« on: October 02, 2016, 09:54:31 PM »
I've noticed some deficiencies in many of the "sneaky" bag being offered in the marketplace. I'm working on a new concept for a sneaky/low profile rifle case. Dimensions are all over the board and need your help. What is the overall length of your go-to rifle/shotgun with fully collapsed stock? (if it does collapse)

Thanks,
Todd

Define "sneaky". That may help with descriptions. "Sneaky" could me a sniper that doesn't LOOK like a sniper. Or, a breakdown you can hide in your hip pocket. Help us out a bit more. Irons, red dot, scoped? What info zactly are you looking for? My first thought was my M96 Swede as it is a long, flat shooter in sheep's cloth. That is "sneaky" to me. Kinda like a Chevy Nova with no markings, but has an 800HP engine under the hood. That IS sneaky.

The current Sneaky bag concept is a case that carries your go-to rifle in a more low-profile/non-descript fashion. Many are devised to look like a backpack some are smaller and made for an SBR or broken down AR. The idea is that you can carry a rifle in public without the case screaming "I have a gun"

My rifle is 33" when folded at this writing, but that's with my horrid side-folding RamLine stock.  The Tapco T6 may be longer.

I have the VZ2008 with the folding stock. It has spent some time as the "truck gun" also.

Any AR can be carried in a not-ready-for rapid-deployment mode in a pretty innocuous looking piece of luggage simply by sliding out the pins and carrying it in two pieces, the longest of which is about 25" with a 16" barrel.

For rapid deployment why not a gun case built to look like a guitar or cello case.  At something like 48" overall, you could carry anything in one

Nothing that's not of legal length. Side folder 10/22 shortest OAL.

A stock SKS can be broken down for dedicated storage. It's not likely you'll run into a situation where you'd have to "whip-out" your rifle. Takes like what, 10 seconds to assemble & load? If it's come down to that, does it really matter? PAX

Do "pistols" count?
19.5" for my 5.56 pistol with the Law FSA.

Thanks for the input so far. I've been working on a padded backpack style gun case that converts into a chest rig. The outside is non-descript but when opened you can get at your rifle and an assortment of pouches.  After usage you just reverse the folding process tuck your rifle back in and walk away :)

Todd, I have a JRC 9mm that is a breakdown. The barrel screws into the stock/receiver with a AR style stock. Also have a 10/22 take down. Also have a Anderson lower 556 AR 16" barrel, that I put into a 10/22 take down case. Take a look at both their websites. They don't look like "guns", except for the 10/22 red logo on the bag. But only a gun owner would likely know that and not bother you. I also have a Anderson lower 556 pistol, 11.5" barrel, that needs a "backpack". Let me know when you have some designs.

Also, you may want to look at "holsters" for the AR pistols. In Texas you MUST have it in a holster if you OC. Other States may have the same or similar requirements. I won't OC unless it is neighborhood watch time. I would prefer a "cross chest holster".
