After many reports of misfires with an all original set-up, and then reports of misfires when using our Firing Pin & Spring, we had Wolff manufacture some special Hammer Springs for us. We had hoped that when the trigger group was properly tuned, the lightest, (Wolff's original 27.5 lb hammer spring) would be adequate to provide consistent ignition. But our testing, and our customers reports are indicating that if you use Berdan primed ammo, (Wolf mostly) you are going to need a stronger Hammer Spring.
And we have it. It is rated at 31 lb, (34 lb being factory original strength) and it is doing a great job at providing that very near 100% ignition while allowing a better felt trigger pull.
Until we get them listed on our shopping cart, you can call our toll-free order line to get yours. Available seperately for $8.00, or with a Wolff "Reduced Power Sear Spring" included for $9.00. (+$2.00 shppg if total order is under $11.00)

You can get more details and read how we incorporate them when installing our Made in USA 922r Compliant Hammers, Sears, and Triggers, on this page of our site:
http://murraysguns.com/922r.htmMany original hammer springs have taken a set over the last 40 to 50 years, and we've seen quite a few tr groups with an unidentified replacement hammer spring that was obviously too weak. So if consistent igniton is a problem for you, try our 31 lb spring, or for an extremely stubborn gun, you can order the 34 lb "original" strength spring.
If you shoot exclusively Boxer primed ammo, the 27.5 lb Hammer Spring is adequate to ignite primers consistently. For Berdan primed ammo use, we recommend the 31 lb Hammer Spring.

Just 2 samples of results we've received from customers:
Ben,
I finally got to the range with the 31LB hammer spring. I fired 120 rounds of:
Tulammo (20)
Golden Tiger (20)
TCW (40)
Brown bear (20)
Wolf Black Box (20)
I had no FTFs and the trigger pull was definitely better then with the stock spring. The better trigger pull made my groups a lot better. As before, the Wolf ammo had the hardest primers. I gave away the last of my Wold ammo and will no longer use it. Brown Bear is the most accurate and has the softest primers. Gold Tiger is a close second. This is the only ammo I will buy in the future. I will be buying another 31LB spring for my other SKS soon. It worked very well.
Thanks,
M M
Murray,
Okay, success. I got the new spring and hammer back in as you suggested, what a bear.
Then I went to the range. I fired 40 rounds in quick succession, 20 each of Wolf and 20 of some milsurp marked 04 65. Not a single misfire. Obviously the 31lb spring solves the problem. (by the way, I've never had "popped" or perforated primers as you describe on your website…not yet anyway)
I did not notice any increase in trigger pull, although there must have been a little. I've never measured the trigger weight with a scale, neither before nor after I did the trigger job.
It all seems fine to me. Many thanks for your help.
Cheers, D C
