I have a Maverick 88 with a top folding stock and a Sidewinder drum conversion, but it's really a pain in the butt to shoot. It looks really cool though, so I keep it around as a conversation piece.  My favorite shotgun however is my Mossberg 500 20ga. youth model. It's a pleasure to shoot, it's easy to carry, and at close range, is just as lethal as a 12 gauge. I originally bought it for my wife, but she has expressed no interests in it, so it found it's way into my gun safe. :)

Plain old Mossberg 590: Bought it used from a friend a few years back and it had one of those top-folding stocks... got rid of that gimmicky stuff in favor of the original stock with room for some extra ammo (not that I anticipate needing 13 rounds inside my house, but nobody ever got into a gunfight and wished they had LESS ammo, right?).

Nice gun USAF. I'm a big fan of the simpler is better principle myself. I do have toys like everyone else though. :)

It is a carbine because Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov said it's a carbine.

Never tried the adapter yet, I did however turn it right side up even though the fit of the bullet is very tight, but just in case.

Weren't these designed with breakactions in mind? Does it cycle through your pump action?

This is strictly my opinion, I'm not trying to mock your choice, but I cannot see any real reason why this would be used as a part of anyone's defensive set-up, especially since you haven't even tested it yet. At best you get a little less than 2 inches of rifling. You are losing accuracy and power. You would be much better off using that spot in your shell holder for another buckshot or slug round.

It does cycle out of the action, I have 8 shots of mixed buck and bird in the mag, plus some buck and the adapter in the shell holder.  The adapter is not really "a part of my HD" setup but rather a convenient place to store the adapter.  In any event, at what distance do you think a HD situation might occur, in my house it would never ever be more than 25 ft.
