SKS, Fail to Feed or What is This?
« on: March 24, 2022, 10:58:50 PM »
Hi All.

Thanks for taking the time to read this inquiry.

I ran into this problem where the first round would fire (No issues) and then the second round would "Jam" or fail to fire. I have a few pictures attached to help with the visualization.

Some background info:

- This is my first SKS and today is the first time firing this rifle using stripper clips running Barnaul HP 7.62x39 rounds. It is fed from the top using stripper clips.
- I am running a Fab Defense stock that I assembled myself.
- First few rounds were flawless and If I recall correctly, this issue began to occur at the last round but sometimes it would occur in the middle of 5 round stripper clip (In Canada, we are pinned to 5 rds).
- Rifle was cleaned using brake cleaner but the bolt assemble was not touched. The firing pin moves freely (Up and down).

WHat could be causing this and how would I mend this to prevent it in the future?

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

Thanks for introducing yourself before posting about your issue.  So many people don't. Rifle looks clean. More pics always wanted. We are going to have to clear something up.
The stripper clip is only a way to load the magazine. Once the magazine is loaded, clip is removed to operate action. Your magazine is pinned at 5 rounds. The failure type you have is a failure to feed if the round ends up face up like that.
A failure to fire would be, round was chambered and bolt returned to battery. Then squeeze the trigger and nothing. No boom.

Try closing the bolt action to full battery.  Load the magazine from the bottom, closing the floor plate on the loaded magazine. Also make sure you are fully engaged with your shoulder.

Does the floor plate rub against the stock anywhere?

Could be stock pressing on mag sides or feed lips bent.
I would take the action out of the stock and put it together.
Check that mag is fully seated front and rear.
Charge with spent cases and check that the feed lips of the mag hold cases securely.

Well I guess my new **** stirrin paddle don't work . I got a like . WTF 😈
