How much wear is too much.
« on: December 28, 2024, 04:16:02 PM »
Ok, I've just gotten my yugo back after it went on a walk about without me for a couple of years.  The police returned it a little worse for the experience although intact for the most part.  After having finished a good clean, it made me realize just how bad this barrel is!!  I had remembered it being pitted but with this new camera!  Boy the lands nearly disappear.  I don't know if anyone else has taken pictures of the bore on their rifles or not these types of cameras were not nearly so available when I purchased the rifle.  I do see a lot of post about changing barrels.
So I just wonder how many of these rifles actually had good barrels when they came to the US to sale?  Percentage wise?  I paid $179.00 for mine and as I recall they had just been increased from $149.00.  That was in 2006. Got the rifle home and realized the barrel was bent.  The sporting goods store where I purchased it was ok with me just trading for another.  I tried to make sure I got a better one this time so I took a couple of patches and a pull thru to clean the bore first, but of course I had not taken the super hard Yugoslavian cosmoline into account and still could not see the bore.  I will be the first to admit it looked like the rifle had been buried for awhile it was so dirty!!

Sorry to here about your Yugo.  Some times I think the Police lockup is worse on firearms than being MIA . . .

LESchwartz, I do not think the Yugo in question was in Police lockup for a couple of years, I think it was stolen, missing for years, recovered by police, then returned to the OP as the owner.

Sorry I guess I wasn't very plain.  The rifle was stolen during a move in 2022, then recovered last month.  So I'm grateful to get it back, never thought I'd see it again.  The time away hasn't helped the pitted barrel, just made me realize how poor it was.
