Romanian feeding issue
« on: January 05, 2025, 01:28:56 AM »
Took my romanian out for the first time in years, last week. While shooting some wolf hp, it will catch before chambering and jam the bullet into the case farther on about every other cycle.  It will shoot the fmj just fine though. Still has factory mag, should I try switching to another factory mag? So far its the only one of my sks rifles that does this.

You can try other mags if you have them and attempt to diagnose the issue, or just not shoot HP in that rifle. It's not uncommon for HP rounds to not feed. Crappy answer but that's all I got, PAX

Look at the chamber, if it is squared off at the face you may need to create a 4-8 O'clock feed ramp to alleviate this issue that HPs can cause. It has been a common problem on the Chinese SKSs that did not have a feed ramp built into the chamber face. IIRC there may be a stick on it in the gunsmithing/projects section.

EDIT to add; If FMJs load and cycle fine then it is probably NOT the mag. The follower spring would have to be shot or the follower arm bent for it to be the mag which are less likely.
