Yugo SKS Mini Survey for Yugo Owners with Log Books
« on: January 29, 2007, 09:12:20 AM »
If you have a Yugo SKS with a log book I could use your help.  I am gathering information to learn more about when/why the extra set of numbers that match the number on the barrel is on some rifles and not others.

I am looking for the following information:

Log book build date on first page (datum izrade)
If no date on that line the date on the bottom line of the first page.
Letter prefix to serial number and serial number except for last 2 digits.
Does the rifle have the barrel number electropenciled on various parts along with the serial number.
Is the rifle in original configuration according to the chart in the "Yugo design evolution" sticky in this forum.

I am hoping that this information will show if the barrel number was scribed when the rifle was originally manufactured of added during refurbishment.

Please e-mail the info to webmaster@yugosks.net and put "mini survey" in the subject line.

Thanks in advance.

I guess I don't have this extra set of numbers because I don't know what you mean.
I'm alright, the world's all wrong.

Hey, withergyld.  I'll see what I can do for you.  Remember the rifle made in '89 expanded the serial number listing on that year per the sample you had.  I'll check it out for you and happy new year, I'm late but still alive.  =D> :D/ :blob6: :blob:

I guess I don't have this extra set of numbers because I don't know what you mean.

Yugo SKS rifles have the serial number on the left side of the receiver.  They also have a "barrel" number stamped on the bottom of the barrel next to the receiver.  The number on the barrel and the number on the receiver are different.  The parts on some rifles will have the serial number stamped on it and the barrel number electropenciled on it.  A common place to find both numbers is on the stock.  The serial number will be stamped on the left side of the stock and the barrel number will be written in pencil on the right side of the stock in the relief cut for the safety. The theory is that the arsenal placed these numbers on the parts to keep them together as the rifle was worked on/assembled.  The question I am hoping to answer is if barrel number was put on the original rifle when it was first built and it the rifle was later rebuilt the numbers were blued over, or if the rifles when originally built did not have the barrel number on the other parts originally but was added when the rifle was rebuilt.

The only way to currently determine with a surety if a rifle that is still in original configuration has been rebuilt or not is by looking at the log book.

Hello All!

New Yugo SKS - U-685xxx.  Born on 7/16/84.  Original, w/book, has electro-penciled matching number on several parts. (lower bolt, receiver, stock safety notch so far - not fully-disassembled yet.)

Sorry for the late response, I missed your reply.  Does the log book for your rifle have any information on this page titled "OPRAVKE"???

just picked up this "new condition" rifle last Thursday -
got the logbook for $20.00 extra - set another one, a "D" prefix rifle (also with logbook) aside for pick up later on this coming week - didn't have all the money on me -

My rifle has been, apparently, rearsenaled, all matching #s - seems the top of the bolt carrier has be "scrubbed" and re-numbered - besides the original serial #s, the rifle also has the (parts assembly?) # 35917- same # as is on the underside of the barrel - electropenciled on the bolt (serial on the bolt itself, unlike the one on the bolt carrier, is the original stamped #) underside of the bolt carrier, the rear sight, the base of the trigger guard, the magazine (not the magazine cover, but the magazine itself), the gas tube (which also has the original stamped # on it) and underside of the receiver cover. The stock has the serial # stamped on it and on the recess to access the safety latch has a penciled "35917" number.

Rifle's bluing is spotless, gas system's in grate shape... furniture is outstanding... Pristine overall. I'd say it's a good buy. What do you think?

Samco's now out of all M59, but they apparently have still got plenty of M59/66s, including a (very) few Yugo 59/66s with logbooks - including some consecutive #s they won't split up. tell me, do you really think it's worth paying the extra $ for the logbooks? there's also a large STACK of orders on one of the front office desks... waiting to be filled. There are piles of empty crates out by the dumpster.
Nice people here.

Will try to get pics of book and rifle up soon... anything else you'd like me to note or point out, anything you need -please ask... I do want to learn about these weapons'... history, etc.. it's all very interesting to me. Im a pensioned Vet and got lots of time to devote to this endeavour.

I've never understood why companies charge for the logbooks.  I mean, if you don't buy it they are just going to throw it away anyway, eh?  Same for original boxes...

Sorry it has been a while...

All pages in my log book for "OPRAVKE" are empty.

My rifle is all matching serial numbers, and has matching  (a different # from the SN) "electro-sketch barrel numbers", except for the sn# on the Handguard/gas tube - which is a few digits off.

Is there a way to get a log book after the fact? I bought from an online dealer so should this dealer have had one?

No.

Apex sells Yugo 59/66 Log Books but of course they will not match your rifle.  They are $8.00

I'm not sure if I'm posting this question in the right place, so moderator, please move this reply if it's not appropriate here.

In addition to all matching serial numbers and separately matching 5-digit factory assembly numbers, my recently acquired Yugo SKS 59/66A1 has the letters "TK" inscribed in the groove on the underside of the rear site. Interestingly, the oiler that came with this carbine also has the letters "TK" scratched on it.

Also, the rubber butt plate on this rifle has a circular plastic insert with the character "3" printed on it. I can't tell if that's the Arabic numeral "3" or the Cyrillic character "3" (roughly equivalent to the Roman letter "Z").

Does anyone know what these markings might indicate?

Wrong forum but..,
The TK is an inspection mark   TK- =Tehnicka Kontrola =Technical Control

The buttpads had Arabic/western numbers on them in little stickers very often  2, 3 etc.,   Not sure why.
