So I got some inert rifle grenades - when they arrived, they looked like this:

Ugly blue and had some rust spots!  I stripped off the paint, put on a base of primer, and then added my own particular style. :)

Whatdya think?

Sorry, another poll I can't participate in.

Your work is really GREAT!!!  If I could get a few of them I'd keep one original as "baseline", paint one flat black, one flat green, and then I'd do my best to create one as cool as the ones you created.

Come to think of it, maybe it would be worth it to buy a case of the Israeli grenades and give it a try.  I've never painted rubber or plastic but they must make primers that will allow it......  thinking............

be careful! If You make it too real looking, and the wrong person says something, You could have the bomb squad up Your butt faster than You could say "Where'd they come from". I prefer to keep them "Inert Blue", if Im taking them out to play with.

Try getting through airport security with those.  :D

I'd usually keep it original, but seeing the way yours came you definitely made the right choice. It would look cool if you copied the original markings though.

Otherwise, I'd paint them bright orange. Shoot 'em and loose 'em? Not for me.

Out of curiosity, what kind of paint did you use?

I used some cheap spray-on stripper, and then covered them with Rust-oleum spray "Rusty Metal Primer"... next was the coat of green, which was "Rust-oleum Satin"... it's a smooth protective enamel, low sheen, etc.... the yellow and red are rustolem "stops rust" gloss protective enamel... all spray stuff.  Lots of thin coats. :)
