Murrays Yugo Gas Valves
« on: March 31, 2009, 06:51:48 PM »
You now have a choice!!  ;)

We are still offering the "New Style" SS Yugo Gas Valves, that use a screw in place of the original Gas Selector button, but now we also have a SS Gas Valve that will use your original spring loaded Gas Selector button. Both are machined slightly oversized to help get the older more used gas system back up and running properly. Definitely cures most cycling issues. This original "Old Style" Gas Valve is also now available on our site.

And now the big News! A Price Reduction!!!!   =D>

That's right, while they used to be $26.00 when ordered from our site, they are now $21.00. Both types. And if you snail mail a MO, just $20.00.  8)

So if your 59/66 isn't always extracting and fully ejecting empties like it should, you might want to consider trying one of our Gas Valves. As with all of Murrays products, your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Ben, I've never tried to colour stainless (although I've done so accidentally).
Can it be blued, or blacked (if bluing is out)?
Can it be Parkerised?

Yes, stainless can be hot blued. Not many do it though, as you have to have different salts in the tank. Not sure about park'ing but I believe it's no problem.

Along with the firing pin I want to order eventually, I want a stainless gas valve, as I heard a lot of the Yugo SKSs have corroded valves from the get go. I haven't taken mine apart yet, but I would at least like a spare if mine should ever go bad, but the stainless is more resistant to corrosion correct? I use the modern commercial non corrosive, but I do have a case of Yugo surplus that is my back up supply. My questions are;
1. Normally the firing pin should be free, as lube could gather residue and gunk. With the Murrays firing pin since it is spring loaded, do you recommend any lube?
2. Should there be any anti-corrosion application to the new gas valve?

1. No Sir, no need to lube. FP & springs have a rust preventative already on them, and just wiping them with cleaning cloth or oil rag, is sufficient in the future.

2. When you clean the gun after shooting, remove Gas Valve and clean thoroughly. A light film from that oil rag or some rust preventative is a good idea.

Yes SS is more resistant to corrosion, but not impervious. You'll still need to clean after shooting it.

Having a backup is fine, but unless yours is not cycling properly, you will not have an immediate need for it.

Hey Murray i just ordered your "New Style" SS Yugo Gas Valve and i am plan on getting a new tapco gas tube. Will the over sizing still work with a new gas tube.

It's going to be tight, that's for sure. You may be able to tap the oposite end of the gas tube with a plastic head or rawhide hammer to get it on the valve, but I would try it first with the original gas valve and see if it ejects empties consistently. If so, save the new valve for future use.

Thanks for the reply my 69 yugo shoots fine with the old gas valve just wanted a new ss one. I was going to order a new tapco gas tube. I just installed the tapco interfuse stock and was just try to upgrade some of the older parts and didn't know if the new gas valve would be to tight with a new gas tube. I'll try it and if dont fit to well i have other yugo's to put it on or save it for back up.

To my knowledge, the Yugoslavian SKS is the only SKS rifle with a gas shutoff, unless a custom job has been done.

A Yugo Gas Block, Gas Valve and Gas Tube might could be fitted to a Russian, but it would be difficult and expensive.

Thanks Sirex.
