SKS Slam Fire & the Cure (video)
« on: January 20, 2010, 12:53:27 PM »
This video is of a customers SKS that looked relatively clean overall. Even the bolt looked clean from the outside, but as you'll see, what was found on the inside of the bolt and stuck to the firing pin, caused serious slam fire problems.

Don't let this happen to you, unexpectedly!! At the very least, disassemble and thoroughly clean your bolt, especially the hole that the firing pin fits in.

If you feed it junk ammo, why should you expect filet mignon results? Well now you can, with our new "Neck & Throat" chamber reaming service!

I just saw this video on Yuotube, very well done video. As soon as my holiday bills are paid off I plan to get a Murrays firing pin. Great idea I must say.

A buddy is a retired Army guy who knew nothing about slam fires, until he tried out his "Paratrooper".
All thirty rds. went off like a machine gun, he told me. The pin has very little movement when shaking the bolt today.

I have no idea whether he would want to pay to cure this, but he might only need the pin's channel to be cleaned.
We don't have the right tools, and having no actual punch, my struggles removing/re-installing my Yugo's retaining pins were far too much a struggle (a firing pin ended up at the wrong angle/loose).

Can just the bolt be shipped to Murray's for basic cleaning, and if so, what is the charge for cleaning/evaluation?
I realize that this probably isn't safe, due to varying amounts of headspace if tested at your shop in another SKS.
Enjoy some of the stored items now. Going to a recent funeral (age 49) reminded me of this. It could be you/I next time.

Yes, and no testing in "another" gun would be necessary.

PM sent.

Thanks very much.
I'll ask that guy whether he wants to ship it in my next box (my expense) with the other Yugo.

He showed me his muskets from 1750-1870 and has enough to arm four platoons. Not kidding or exagg., but he has never tried any of them.
