According to the charts, yup, it's a '67.
I don't need a sig line.

Mine has no ports, tritinium front sight, non tapered, and non tapered retaining ring.  The letter only shows once on the serial number and that is where it's stamped on the receiver.  It starts with an E. Also it shows the signs of being refurbished.

It is normal to have the letter only on the side of the receiver.

Does the rear sight have a night sight?
Does your bolt carrier have the cut on the stripper clip guide?

It sounds as though the barrel was replaced at some point from your description.

got an odd one for you.

the stock is numbered 543112 but there is no serial or importers mark on the metal anywhere.

only place i havent looked is under the upper handguard but im not going to attempt to remove it and check.

no electropenciled numbers on any part, only markings it has is BK and 1 in a square.

working tritium night sights, non ported grenade launcher, non tapered retaining ring.

no serial number prefix on the stock.
Don't take my word for it, i tend to lie when it suits me.

It has night sites front and rear.  I sent you an email with all information to include the serial number. Thanks.

Many rifles have been rebulit at one time or another. They were most likely rebuilt with the parts on hand. It is common for early rifles to have late model features. D and E series rifles without night sights are pretty rare.

I have a Yugo 65974 that is a D with out pos night sights, what do you mean by rare(does not look like it ever had night sights no signs of removal or bubbaand i got mine unisssued from interordinance
any help would be appreciated Thank You.

The front sight block is different from the later rifles with the night sights.  The D series accounts for about 4% of total M59/66 production.  Of the D series rifles I have data on about 50% do not have night sights.  If this trend is accurate only about 2% of the M59/66 rifles produced can be found without night sights.  This is based on extrapolation of data I have collected.  I spent six months searching for a D series w/o night sights before I found one.

I posted pics comparing the M59/66 rifles with and without the night sights here:

GREAT work, and as usual, my rifle doesn't seem to fit the mold.  I am certain it has been reconditioned.....
Serial number E 1145XX    (1968?)
Phospor nite sites
squared grenade ring
NON ported GL
No longbook or interesting carvings....and all numbers match...the serial number stamping is not square, and  the SN on the bolt carrier is electro pencil engraved.
dark bore, tons of cosmoline
According to what i read, I assume this rifle was refurbished by someone, due to the nite sites, non ported GL and the serial number stampings...but you may want to add this info to your list....it may be handy for someone later...

D Series on layway
« Reply #27 on: December 26, 2005, 07:41:39 PM »
I put a D series without night sights on layaway today. It has a name carved into the stock and does not appear to have been sanded down. There is some wear on the metal parts which are mainly on the grenade launcher. Bore is good to very good with very stong rifling and only minor pitting in the grooves.

There is evidence that it may have been arsenal wrapped. There is some brown wax paper still attached in bits on various parts, held on with the massive amount of cosmoline on it. Has all matching serial numbers that I can see. No number on the magazine and electropenciled number on inside of receiver cover. No number on the gas tube. Not sure if the receiver cover was replaced at some point or just electropenciled in during a refurb to keep the parts matching.

I plan on getting it out of layway before the end of the year. Not too far off. Not sure if I want to shoot this one or to keep it as a collector's item. I have another yugo to shoot.

I added serial number pictures and the no night sight pictures to my original post and corrected some spelling errors.
