Trigger group removal...it's stuck
« on: November 15, 2011, 08:22:47 AM »
I recently purchased a chicom paratrooper that had an after market folding stock on it.  The stock doesn't have a name on it but is all synthetic with a pistol grip.  I tried to remove the trigger group so I could send it off to Kivaari to have it worked on but I can't get the trigger group out of the stock.  It seems stuck or something.  It moved maybe 1/4 inch when I pushed in the pin to release it but won't budge even if I pull hard.  It appears to have clearance in the back and isn't being pinched by the pistol grip.  Any ideas short of taking the stock off the gun to remove it?  Anyone ever encounter a similar issue?

Is the safety in the ON position?
I wander out where you can't see, inside my shell, I wait and bleed.

The safety is on. The release is pressed in and the trigger group is released I just can't get it to pull out

It could be that during the stock swap the stock spring wasn't used and is missing.
This condition makes it tough to remove the TG.
If so you'll have to depress the locking slide putting ample force on it while pulling up on the TG frame. Enough to counteract the force you are applying to the locking slide.

I understand what you are saying but am not totally clear.  Are you saying I will need to depress the trigger group release mechanism and keep pressure on it while at the same time pulling outward on the trigger group?  Forgive me for asking so many questions but I haven't worked on my sks's before and this one is a new (used) one for me.

Yes that is basically what we are saying. Turn your SKS upside down on your bench, flip the safety to the on(horizontal) position, then while pushing forward on the FCG(trigger group) latch release pull upward on the FCG. It might take a good bit of pressure but don't worry about that, it is normal. You do not have to remove the top end of the rifle to get the FCG out but if you already have it apart that is fine too. After the FCG is out and with the bolt assembly either back and locked or out you can then remove the mag.

FYI, there is a video on youtube for the disassembly of the SKS that you might like to watch.
