Here are some photos I took while taking a hike with my boys for Father's Day to Bear Creek Overlook of the Big South Fork river.  It's waaaay up high, and the there is a winding trail through some cliffs.  It's black bear country, but we didn't see any.

We did have a strange experience though.  While hiking a short trail that leads to a cleft in the cliffside, we heard a strange noise coming from above the tree tops.  We were the only ones there as far as I know, as the only others were leaving as we were parking.  The noise was a metallic creaking sound, like a car door opening, but there are no roads, houses or cars anywhere near where we were out in the wilderness.

It was stationary, and high up, as we heard it in the distance, then over top of us, then behind us as we moved on.  I've been in the Kentucky woods quite a bit, and never heard anything like it.  It wasn't a tree creaking in the wind, and didn't coincide with the breeze.  It spooked my oldest son, but my youngest was just excited and said it was a bear up in the trees.  I recorded a video of it on my phone, but you can barely hear it.  It wasn't an animal, at least nothing I've ever heard.  It sounded like a car door right before it slams, but with no slam, and kept repeating.

Anyway, we had a good time and it was a beautiful day, mid 70s with a light breeze.  Perfect day for a walk.  I tried to get a good pic of the platform, the river and the mountain top meadow we walked through.

Very nice and a great place to visit with your boys. :)

Think the noise was probably the ghost of Daniel Boone.

Thanks guy!  This is a blessed place to live.  That view is about an hour from the house.  I'd love to have some land down there adjoining the Daniel Boone Forest...

I don't know what that noise was.  It sounded like rusty hinges, but after years of the history channel, my only conclusion is that it was ALIENS! or perhaps a G-G-G-Ghost!   Zoinks Scoob!

I'm sure there is a logical explanation.  Maybe it was a sign blowing in the breeze and echoing off the cliffside.  It was just out of place in the wilderness.

But it was a good Father's Day, and I will cherish the memory.  My 5 year old caught his first fish yesterday, he landed two bluegill all on his own.  All I did was bait the hook.  He can cast pretty good for a 5 year old!  The oldest caught one, but didn't get a bite in the next 5 minutes and was done with fishing.  :(

Ha! I learned that dad's with kids that age don't fish. They bait hooks, untangle lines and listen to complaining after the 1st hour or so!
