Is your ammo corrosive? Here is a way to test it and tell!

(1/1)

Old Outlaw:
Over and over I read "How do I tell if my ammo is corrosive or not?" Then folks argue about whether a brand is or is not. They don't take into account how old it may be. You can buy ammo today that is corrosive if you go only by a brand name or country of manufacture alone. Here are links to show you how very easily! Pistol, rifle, either one.

Just a note! A lot of this Klimovsk ammo still around is just reloaded Russian Military. Be aware of it and perhaps test what you have if you think it is non-corrosive, marked or not. This is why a lot of it was apparently held up from selling for a number of years.

Same applies to a lot of the old Russian White box still floating around. No matter who made it and even though the box says non-corrosive. Fact is, what importers actually even do a simple nail test?
Few if any in my opinion. I have tested over the years some of this Russian stuff and some is corrosive and some not. Same way with Uly ammo.

So just to post asking if any ammo is non-corrosive is a question that cannot be definitively answered by anyone. Just test it yourself if in doubt.

Thanks Bernie.

Rocketvapor:

Now here is an interesting variation on the "=Nail+test" (google it)
It is the 'tin can test' (posted here a year ago)
I guess you could also divide the tin can lid into fourths.

Just remember to wear your protective equipment when doing this stuff.

juaneye:
