It's fun and I'm learning more as I go.
Like the grasshopper is a
Brachystola magna :)

FZ70: and this moth is a Skipper, not a moth.
He looks really happy :)

I'm assuming you're using a tripod to get these great shots?  How are these bugs letting you get that close to them with a big setup?

Actually hand held for the last few shots I posted.
Tripod is necessary with the DSLR, Bellows, and zoom lens.
I turn on 'Live-View' zoom with 3X (3x is the max on Macro with the FZ70) and move the camera slowly toward the little critter.  Snapping as I go.  Lots of shots wasted.
I was outside and the Skipper flew right up in front of me and smiled.  I had to go inside, get the camera and come back.

Here's some I just took.  Light is fading so I might not have caught a good one.
You can see me getting closer and closer.  Look at the image IDs in the first attachment to see how many I trashed :)
Had to use ISO 400 and with the FZ70 it starts to grain up.  The K-r can go much higher.
Here's the last pic in the group resized as an attachment; Attach #2.
Attachment 3 is a crop of attachment 2 to show how light affects exposure setting.
Some movement, and grain.  Not worth keeping.

Compare this Macro to the bug on the finger attachment.
Cool stuff out there in the world of little creatures.

I like my DSLR and the collection of lenses I have but the Super Zoom is hard to beat. All the major brands have them.
Macros one moment, a button press, spin a dial, click whir, and you can shoot Anticrepuscular rays around sunset.

This little guy is tiny (1st Attachment).  I can't even see the colors with the naked eye unless I magnify him. Camo is effective.  Looks white.

Then the little nymphs are so cute. I guess the pointed 4 segment proboscis is a little scary though

Found this guy crawling across the kitchen floor.  Marching on to somewhere. Probably to take a bath.
Put him outside in the rain. FZ70, f/2.8, 4 shots ranged from 1/60" to 1/13", ISO 400.

Cicadas are fun.  I used to collect a few each year as a kid and watch them transform.

This is a sassafrass tree that got hit by lightning Monday. Blew pieces over 100 feet. One piece was about the size of a landscape timber, around 6'-0" long, and it speared 3' into the ground. Had to pull it out with the tractor.

Ruined a perfectly good set of shorts as well. It was loud!

Yikes, about 4 or 5 years ago we had a cottonwood get hit in our pasture, blew bark pieces  80 - 100 yards away.  Killed the branch it ran down, and I noticed it was swelled in spots. The whole half of the top eventually fell off.

Yeah lightning can do a lot of damage. We're going to cut that tree out of there. It's been there as long as I can remember.

Nice pictures.  The X400 lacks the Super Zoom but is a very good value vs features for the $$,  for portraits, groups, very wide scenic pics.

Took this one with a little more zoom at the Columbus, Ohio petting zoo :)

Typical Aussie attitude

Ape habitats were a little on the depressing side.

Interesting how personality comes through with animals. Sort of like you can tell what they are thinking if you look close.

Also hiked around a couple small water falls and caverns while in the Dublin/Columbus area.

and saw a whole gaggle of illegal immigrants early one morning.
