I was a Daisy .177 pellet gun owner in the late 80's/early 90's.

We'd ride our bikes around our failrly rural neighborhood with our pellet guns in tow.  The county sheriffs and DPS would sometimes drive past us and never even stopped to talk to us.  Nor did they need to.

We were so lucky to have grown up when we did, and I couldn't be more thankful.

I had the misfortune of only hitting the age point to finally go out and get my first real gun this year, and now get lumped in with the panic buyers... but mine was a chiappa M6, based off the old USAF M6, except larger and with a chambering of 12 gauge over .22lr instead of .410 over .22 hornet. Although I really like the xcaliber inserts I got with it, the looks I get at the range when I pull out a shotgun and ask if they have any .357 or .45 acp are great.

My first purchase was at age sixteen. We had moved to alberta from Ontario. I had some shooting experiences through army cadet program but hadn't owned any real firearms. Dad was ex British military and while he wasn't anti gun he was reluctant to let me get one and definitely wouldn't help me buy one. All my new Alberta peers were farm boys, even those who lived in our small town had farms on which we went shooting. .22 lr, mostly at gophers, however we did see the occasional badger or marmot.
Long story short, at sixteen i received an annuity payout that my grandmother had set up at my birth. After conversion from pounds to dollars, I had a little over $50 to spend. After school, I went to the local hardware store and asked to see what they had in that price range. Choices were Winchester model 72 bolt action with scope or a Winchester model semi auto without scope. I picked the scoped model. Next thing I did was walk the two blocks to dads work to show off my new purchase and fledgling manhood!🤣. He just shook his head and said to take it home.

My first firearm was in 1960 at age six.  My mothers cousin gave me a near mint G Series/S42 Luger with a holster, matching extra magazine, and an Iron Cross.  Serial number 3xxx.  He was an infantryman in WW 2 and “liberated” it from a German officer that “did not need it anymore”.  Passed it on to my son who will pass it on to his son some day.  It is a treasure!
Many more firearms since then!

Hmmm I read the first post, sounds like he's talking about turning 18 or 21 and buying my first gun, but down here in the South, I was given my first guns- a .22 semi auto rifle and a .38 SA cowboy pistol. They were mine and I carried them both everywhere I went (yep OC). Back in the 60's Florida was very rural and family was all around (including the local PD). We call it Jurassic Park, cause there's more living creatures, on land and in the Gulf, from the dinosaur era than anywhere else and they're all bigger than me and they ALL want to eat you.
I was born(1959) and raised in Central ( West coast) Florida.  I was 4 when JFK was killed. I got my guns when they sent the men to the moon (the first time) and RFK got shot. If ya'll remember the TV show Flipper, that's how i grew up. I remember watching Viet Nam on the TV every night, with Walter Cronkite.I was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout and shooting was part of our activities.i was 17 at our Bicentennial and to celebrate I graduated from HS (a year early) and joined the USMC. My Dad gave me a Colt Combat Commander when I graduated Boot camp. I carried it the 8 years i was in and ever since. Well now I carry a Kahr CT40 (appendix). i have  a Citadel semi auto 12 ga for home defense, a Stevens 110E in 30-06 for long range and this SKS bull-pup for everything in between. I tell ya. i like it better the an AR. i mean, it has more punch than an AR. Piston driven is the latest, greatest thing for AR, heck, SKS has had it  for decades. Milled receiver (iDK of ANY AR that has a milled receiver. i imagine they do, but I ain't seen one). Loads of fun to shoot. Now i just gotta get the forward lug (so i can use AK mags) and a nasty flasher.,,lol BTW I have about 2000 rnds of 5.56 (new, in bricks)  Ill trade for x39's. (I'll post it in the appropriate place). Thanks

yeah, I don't fit in any of those categories in that poll...........I didn't start owning a Privately Owned Weapon (POW) until after I retired from the Army in 1995.  the very first weapon I bought was a USGI ITHACA M1911A1 at a gun show....more for a memento then anything else, then a few months later I bought a Egyptian MAADI AK, from there it just grew      :)

and yes, still have those to this day :)

My dad gave me his first rifle, a Mossberg .22 Model 26 single shot bolt action rifle. It’s from the early 1930s and takes .22 short, long and long rifle. Still have it and use it to take care of squirrels getting in my corn and sunflowers. Very accurate and well made rifle.

He then bought me a single barrel Harrington and Richardson .20 gauge. We did a fair amount of skeet shooting together with that. That was in 1980 or so. Wish I still had that.
