Toad:
There are a few things too look for when buying a WASR. Here's a helpful video that shows you how to inspect the quality of the rifle prior to buying. (Not my work)

That's actually a pretty good video with some sound information for newbies.

It is fairly well done but a few of the items are a bit off. Maybe I'm just too picky? He mentions the front sight cant being fixed by removing the pin on the front sight. Actually there are two pins holding the front sight block and you may need to do a bit of redrill to get the sight block straight.
As he describes the magazine wobble he explains the wobble can be caused by improper/excessive milling out of the magazine well from single stack to double stack. While that is true the main reason is that WASR rifles do not have dimpled receivers as do original or double stack rifle receivers. This allows the mag to wobble inside the receiver. On some later models they (Century) added internal welded metal shims to reduce or eliminate the wobble. Otherwise a pretty good video.

it is a good video.his explinations are good. the only real problem i know of with wasrs is alot, and i mean alot of people buy them sight unseen off of the internet from the companies that carry them. i have to ask this question, would you buy a house like that? would you buy a vehical like that? i think not. any firearm you buy brand new, you should do it in person.take the time to check the thing out.i love my wasr hi cap. no mag wobble , well, i have one mag out of 10 that wobbles very little but you can get one like that ,that does that on any ak.if i do have any kind of cant it must be so insignifigant i can not tell.and im picky.ive read about trigger slap. thankfuly ive never had that problem with any firearm. sounds uncomfortable.the bolt sticking on the hammer, well, from what i understand they almost all {wasr} do this. they are new. i noticed on another bolt i tried in my wasr from a rommy military kit that sized correctly, it did not hang up. on further inspection i noticed the underside was very polished as to where it would contact the hammer.with that said, that tells me, shoot the thing alot, itll go away. l.o.l. off the web from a company you cant ask, hey does it have mag wobble?,or is the front sight canted? or was it such a century screw up the bolt carrier wont come out without a lot of dremil work? l.o.l. up close and personal you can though. and you can if you buy it off of someone else as well.useualy just by asking. but the big companies are out there to push product out and make a buck.they know if they send out 20 crappy guns to 20 people, not everyone will be returned and there ya go. got rid of some crap they might have been stuck with. you also have to take in to account that to sell that rifle here as cheaply as possible, that in romania im sure they have someplace simular to a century sweathouse full of kids building the things. in other words, if you shop at the dollar store dont expect the quality of your dollar purchase to be worth ten dollars. l.o.l. kaz

Seriously though... good info. Unfortunately, following this advice does pretty much rule out buying one of these firearms from one of the large dealers - sight unseen - "forcing" a buyer to go to a local 01 and their higher prices. This would be at their (usually) high mark up. Then again, you do save the shipping and transfer cost.
