Nice!  I particularly like the second hole to keep the leather from continuing to split.   Are you going to round off the corners?

Yes, the wood stain is currently dry. Next, I will protect the tabs with leather lube and round the corners.

Another build is nearly complete: the Yugo receiver with a Russian barrel. The front sight has been modified using parts from an AK-47. A few shims were added to align the barrel with the receiver properly.

The detent for the AK-47 front sight has been installed, and the barrel has been threaded to M14x1 LH. It allows me to install the muzzle brake without using a thread locker or jam nut.

I converted the aftermarket peep rear sight leaf to look original. Additionally, I purchased the original RPD rear sight leaf and windage screw, and I will attempt to install it on the aftermarket rear sight.

I installed a modified Mosin-Nagant M44 black spike bayonet on my new "French Tickler" SKS rifle, which I acquired through a trade, as it originally did not have a bayonet. The bayonet functions flawlessly.

The black bayo looks boss. I put a black Alby bayo on my last scrubbed parts-built rifle, in a phenolic stock, blued bolt carrier and black naval sling. Here it is with some other home brewed handy work. PAX

I replaced the unappealing "French Tickler" with a wooden handguard. Additionally, I removed the Magwedge SKS Kwikrail because I dislike that setup; it prevents me from loading the magazine. The original dust cover lever has been installed. The dust cover lever was modified.

My new modification allows the pin on the dust cover lever to be removable. This feature is helpful when installing something that requires the dust cover lever to be removed.

Please describe this one in more detail:  Maybe a parts list, tools list, and some basic step-by-step instructions.  I foresee this being a popular post to split off and pin!

Installing a new dust cover lever is straightforward. Follow these steps:

1. **Purchase a New Dust Cover Lever**: Start by buying a brand-new dust cover lever.

2. **Drill the Existing Hole**: Use a drill to enlarge the existing hole to a diameter of 2.5 mm.

3. **Thread the Hole**: Tap the hole with an M3 tap all the way through.

4. **Insert the Set Screw**: Take a 3 mm set screw and adjust it to fit with the dust cover. Remove the excess material from the other end of the set screw by grinding it down.

**Installation**: Place the dust cover lever into the receiver, and apply a red thread locker on the set screw to secure it.

**Removal**: To remove the set screw, use a heat gun to apply heat, then unscrew it.

The main reason to use a FRENCH tickler HG, is that it matched the replacement stock's color for the camo stock that was on that Paratrooper. PAX

I prefer the original all-wood appearance of the SKS. I don't see any benefits to that "French Tickler" handguard.

They're so rare you can jack-up the price and they are 10X as thermodynamically heat disappateingly efficient. PAX

I'm not going to sell it. Maybe someday I'll put it back into use.

I'm really not that fond of them, but like I mentioned it happened to match some wood perfect. The phenolic stock/hg are a tough color match too. Of 4 phenol and 6 HGs I could only get 1 set to an acceptable level, same with the FT hg, 3 of those and only 1 chunk of wood worked. PAX

The new project, "Fabricating Crossbolt Nuts," has begun.
