Powder prices.

Hay, has anyone noticed a price increase on powders lately? Went to Cabelas yesterday, been a while since I've been there. When looking at the gun powders I saw the price was up $5.00 since the last time I went.I know they are high priced, but have you seen this in your area?

Well there are a couple of ways to look at it.  First prices for raw materials, energy for production and shipping and hazmat cost are up,there isn't much you can do about that.  Secondly businesses tend to take advantage of political, social and even is some cases natural disaster to jack up prices to make a quick profit.

I don't buy powder from the big box stores there always way to high,at least the ones around here are.   I buy my powder usually in group buys through Powder Valley and split the shipping and hazmat cost.  Powder Valley sells there powder at the same prices as the local distributor does to the local dealers around here.

I guess basically what you have to figure out is if the price you have to pay is a better deal at Cabelas for an immediate need or would saving up and buying several lbs. of powder and a few bricks of primer thrown in which are much cheaper at PV + the hazmat and shipping would be a better deal in the long run.

Thanks for the info,I could do better at a local gun shop on powder than Cabelas.

prices are up in general for anything that matters. Food, fuel, ammo, reloading supplies. I don't know what these people in teh media buy when they repoort that inflation is under 4%.  Its more like 24% on things I buy including powder.  I have been forced to stop paying retail.  I'm shopping garage sales, classified ads, etc.  $20+ per pound is crazy.  Might as well buy loaded ammo at that price.
