Time Has Come Today

Those words from The Chambers Brothers? song feel pretty fitting right now: the time has come for me to retire. Health issues in July and August of ?23 ? and again this month ? have made me realize? I?m getting old.
Over the past 40 years, and especially in these last 20+ years here, I?ve met so many great people. When I first came across ?Survivor Dean?s? site, I was amazed at the opportunity it offered me, and I?ll always be grateful that he let me create a section just for ?Murrays.? I can?t thank him enough ? nor Galahad (RIP) or Ranger ? and of course, a HUGE THANKS to the Mods here and to all of you who became our customers over the years.
That said, I?d love for the business to keep serving SKS owners across the U.S., Canada, and beyond. I?m posting here first because I think someone from this community might be interested in carrying on what I started back in 1985. This could mean a sale of just the website and shopping cart, or that plus the entire operation: everything inside the buildings ? two V Mills, two lathes, a TIG welder, polishing/buffing machine, guns, parts I?ve collected over the years, end mills galore, drill bits, specialty gunsmithing tools, air compressor, stocks and parts from my Alpha Arms days, chamber reamers, calipers, micrometers, office furniture, computers, printer ? the list goes on. There?s also the option to include the land and two metal buildings (30? x 40? and 40? x 60?), both filled with even more that I haven?t mentioned here.
If you?re interested, please reach out. I know the firearm industry is feeling the effects of politics and the current downturn, but I?m happy to help during a transition ? maybe add a few more parts to the shopping cart that I just haven?t had time to get to, and offer some advisory support for a limited time. With somewhere between 2 and 10 million SKSs in the country, there?s still plenty of opportunity out there. Honestly, someone really needs to step up as the go-to AK-47/SKS gunsmith in this country!
Send me a PM or email if you have questions ? I?ll do my best to give you honest and accurate answers. (And here?s hoping the ?we?ll loan you money? bots stay out of my inbox!)
Thanks again to everyone here at SKSBoards.com. Wishing you all the very best!
? Ben Murray

Good luck Ben. I too have throttled back since a triple bypass in 2022.  It sucks not being invincible and immortal, but such is life. Thanks for the trigger jobs you've done for me. Be well my friend, PAX PS, I seen the Chambers Brothers play that song at Winterland  8).

Thanks PAX!!! I bet that was a day to remember. Seeing them do live on videos is cool but I'm jealous you got to be there.

Larry, you're absolutely right! As the saying goes...We're born..............................We die.   (but then....)

Hey Ben, your news is a little bitter sweet, knowing you will be hard to replace among the gunsmith field. May retirement do you well, you have earned it.

Thanks for the help over the years Mr. Murray.  You have helped make the SKS community a safer place with your helpful advice and gunsmithing.  I appreciate your help in making my heirlooms safer with your trigger work and firing pins.  You have probably saved some folks along the way with preventative maintenance and education about proper sear engagement.

Best wishes for a long retirement, Sir!

Sincerely,
JJKY

Greatguns, Thanks! First on my bucket list will be Mt Rushmore. Then maybe some trout fishing in CO, MT, ID and WY.

JimmyJames, you're more than welcome and Thanks for the compliments. That's what I started out doing when I heard of the guy in CA that lost his life when SKS went full auto. Ironic that I learned years later his name was John Murray. (no kin to me though) And while health issues say it may not be a "long" retirement, I'm going to do what I can to enjoy life as long as possible.

Thank You ranger! Very kind words. Hopefully someone will take over the business and continue to serve SKS owners.
I'll stop by once in a while, hopefully with stories of Cindi and mines' travels.

Congratulations Ben! You have earned it! Thank you for all the things you have done over the years, for the community and myself when I needed help with my SKS's. Your knowledge is vast and while your departure won't stop things, it will sure slow them down :). Take care and enjoy your new career!

Take Care!
