How many TAPCO stock users field strip their SKSs?
« on: September 08, 2013, 06:43:38 PM »
Just curious, since so many members seem to be installing the 'Intrafuse' stock, how have you been managing to field strip and clean your weapon with the SAW grip screwed on?  Seems to me you must be unscrewing that 3/8" threaded fastener and removing the grip before you are dropping out the trigger group.

I put up an earlier thread posing a similar question and one member said he'd carved quite a bit of plastic away from the grip in order to allow the trigger guard to swing out.
IDK if I want to do all that grinding.

I'm thinking of using the screw hold-on method until the plastic threads wear out, then replacing the screw with a bolt nutted atop the stock.

What have other folks been doing?

I ground out the Handel. It has worked well for a couple years now.

Same here. Dremeled the hand grip so the trigger comes out.

Thx, guys!
For now I'm going to continue to use as per instructions with the screw.  If it fails, then I'll drill the hole thru to the top and put a lock-washer and an acorn on it.
Somebody on another thread said Tapco said that the screwed-on handle/stock is warrented for life.  :0 |

Next in the chute is the Tapco 20/5 mag that requires custom fitting...

I got that measurement for you on the pistol grip mod. I cut it down/open approximately 1.1 inches. Its about 1 inch across also. Hope this helps.

I’ve only done a partial field strip (Leaving the trigger in)
The mod to drop the trigger out sounds like the key.  Thanks for the post guys.

I bought the T6 on a whim for my brother.  I then realized that it demands some careful work on the pistol grip.  I don't trust myself to do this right... if it isn't a straight cut through something with a saw/blade/chainsaw, I am pretty worthless.  I am good with a chainsaw, but that won't work for this.

I think the main problem is the possibility of stripping the plastic if you DO decide to screw/unscrew the grip every time the trigger group has to be removed.  It doesn't look like a metal nut can be placed in there.

Are there any other options?

I really was wondering if reinforcing the pistol grip screw threading in the stock had been considered or if it was possible.

Someone on these boards always comes up with something amazing.

I am going to try the easy way out first.  If that works, I will consider JB Weld to keep the grip permanent.

I field strip mine because I had the grip modified to allow me to break it down without removing the grip each time.
