Lehigh Defense

Anyone have experience with these projectiles?

Ordered some 90 gr 9mm from Natchez shooters supply for $33 per 100. Pretty good price considering what they command on their website ($28.50/20).

Load data shows a starting load at 1300 fps with power pistol, to 1430 fps with cfe pistol. 1430 is a +p load.

My shield is not a +p but I could prob go somewhere in the middle with some research. I have some power pistol powder but no cfe pistol.

Also, I took inventory of my primer supply yesterday and discovered that I am woefully low on lg pistol and shot shell primers. Neither of which are available on AmmoSeek.com. I put in a “notify me when” order.

How are y’all dealing with this shortage if at all?

Interesting times. Remove one component and effectively nullify firearms be it through ammo ban or components to build ammo.

The shields are P+ rated, but they advise you to not shoot it regularly.

Worked these up last night. Might try to get out this afternoon to test. I don’t have any ballistic gel to see the affect of this defensive round. Any suggestions for using household items for the test?

I’d say buy a cheap bone in pork shoulder and put a few layers of cut up denim over it, but with the price of meat these days it would be costly. My 2nd thought would be 3-5 gallon water jugs set up in a row with the denim over the 1st one.

From everything I have seen showing the testing of those bullets is they are to to tear right through just about everything without any deformation. Tim on the MAC has done some good testing on various calibers using these bullets including shooting a feral hog.

They work.

So the idea being penetration with velocity doing the damage?

Yes, I have the same bullets to load at some point in 9 & 380. When I used to work up loads, I would use colored magic markers and color code the primers with Orange the hotest down to green for starters. Makes for a fool proof way to inspect the hot loads for cracks and such when going at the cases again. I think these loads really put new SD life in the smaller cals.

Good idea on the cases. Unfortunately I tested these yesterday afternoon before your reply. :(  I did recover all the cases and will inspect them.

I must not be a good shot or I was too far away for these particular projectiles. This is from 10 yards. The last pic I only shot 4 at the target and 1 into a bucket filled with sand. Hard to tell how far it penetrated. I tried to dig down and find where it stopped but didn’t have much success. There was no deformation to it or a .45 slug I shot into it.

This is my 1911 in .45 auto from the same distance. Perfecta 230gr fmj. Longer barrel, better results. :)

After seeing those results I would probably just go with some good old Hornady 115 / 124 gr. XTP bullets, much cheaper and a proven design that just works in most any handgun.

Shop is local to me and they have good prices and will ship any non hazmat items, don't even bother asking about primers or powder they have no primers and very little powder.

I could try going down in powder to 5.9 and 5.6 grains. Cycling maybe an issue at some point. Take the chrony and check velocities at those rates.
