Reman some old components
« on: December 11, 2021, 10:03:01 PM »
I have a bunch of 9mm rounds that look to be mil spec. Think I’ve posted about these before. Anyway, I don’t know much about them except they were in the stash of my dads and he probably got them from my uncle. My father did not own a 9mm so I’m not sure why he had em. I also found that they don’t work well in my shield (1.0). Don’t know if it’s the age of these or the hardness of the primer. The primer was struck pretty hard and no boom.

As you can see I pulled the bullets and weighed them and the powder. The cases are berdan primed, least wise I think so. The case has two flash holes so the cases are not usable to me. Not sure of how to dispose of these primed cases.
Bullet weights ranged from 98.5 to 99.4 grn with an average of 98.8 out of ten rounds pulled. It will be interesting to see the velocity of these. Powder was pretty consistent @ 5.7 to 6.0 grn for a 5.85 average ( most were 5.8, 5.9).

Gonna work these up and see how they go. Not sure how many of these I have but it’s prob 2-300. Almost free ammo!

I think that's Hirtenberger ammo.  I had some 100gr. +p+ truncated cone design. I still have a few rounds stashed somewhere.  I only had one box a gunstore sold me as plinking ammo and it was so hot I didn't want to use much of it. I think what you have is WWII era Hirtenberger.  Cool!

May be Nazi ammo from 1942?  Not exactly the same as your headstamp, but a similar design.

Do you have any of the packaging?  Are those rounds black?!  They look it in the pictures.

If it’s Mil spec I was thinking SMG ammo due to the hardness of the primers.

Yes, they are black and I do have the packaging. Think there’s a pic in my vintage ammo thread. Nope, not there, I’ll post one. The packaging looks the same as the first link you provided.

So there’s about 150 rounds. Maybe I should rethink dismantling them since they’re from 1941 and collectible.

I think what I had was made for SMGs.  It was a truncated cone design, 100gr +P+. Red sealant around the primer, and HOT HOT HOT.  I fired a few rounds and put it up. It was too hot for plinking but was a cool round from a collectors standpoint.  It was damn near too hot to be safe in a pistol.

Hey Phil, to you plan on holding on to some of that just for collectors interest?  Could that be NAZI ammo?

EDIT: Nevemind, I saw your post right after I asked about it.  Yeah, I would just hold onto to that if it were me.  Not only is it historically interesting, those black rounds look pretty bitchin.
