Just found out that Shipstation, which is the shipping app that PayPal now uses, no longer allows for extra value insurance for anything firearm related (as well as some other stuff like jewelry). So basically, if you are using Shipstation to ship firearm related items with a value over $100 you can not get full coverage insurance on the item(s) unless you want to lie to them about what's in the package (your choice of course). My thought after discovering this is wondering if Pirateship, stamps.com, etc. are all doing this as well. If you ship using a third party shipping label creator like these you should check the fine print on any policy changes.
On the bright side, I had seen that USPS.com added a new shipping manager to their Click-n-ship set up. If you have an account on their website you can use the 'Enhanced Click-n-Ship' manager to get discount rates. This is specifically for individuals (non-businesses) who do a lot of shipping to allow for discounts by doing their own labels at home instead of paying the full retail at the post office. Here is my example of what I would have paid using Shipstation via PayPal and what I actually paid via USPS.com Enhanced Click-n-Ship.
USPS Ground advantage through Shipstation w/o insurance was $27. Probably another $6-$7 to add $500 full coverage insurance so, $33-$34 total
USPS Ground Advantage direct through USPS using the Enhanced C-n-S manager with $500 insurance was $28.60. A much better price and easy to maneuver. And I was able to use my PayPal credit to pay for it. They also offer most other methods of payment; CCs, Apple pay, Google Pay, etc.
Basically I think USPS decided they wanted to cut into the market share these third party entities were getting.
I think this will be my shipping method of choice whenever feasible from now on.
