Me and my little brother got a Cricket .22 for Christmas in '90 when I was 11. When I was 13, Dad bought me a Norinco j-22 (Browning copy) for Christmas. I have and had many guns since then, but that Norinco still rates as one of my favorites to shoot.

Danjal, it looks like the middle gun. The safety was a lever you pushed forward on the right along the side the rear of the receiver IIRC. And the attachment bolt also was below the stock, not recessed like the bottom one. I guess that is the cheaper version. There was also a "ramp" inside the receiver you would lay a bullet on and just close the bolt.

I got my first gun at around 1999, a black powder reproduction of a 1858 Enfield rifle, used by both sides during the US Civil War. My grandfather and I reenacted together, and we both used reproduction enfields. I still have that rifle to this day (and I still reenact with it) and it is one of my favorites, black powder guns are my first true love and they were my "foot into the door" of the gun world.

'69.  Had my first Daisy Red Ryder in '68 and got my Topper .410ga youth model shortly afterward.  In '71,  I received my first rifle, another Topper single shot 30-30.   All downhill from there.

However, I didn't get my first SKS until 2008, then it fell off a cliff.....

I don't remember exactly when I got my first gun, but I'd guess by 1989, at 7 years old, I already had the single shot .410 that was passed down from my grandpa.

ETA:  On second thought I know I had it by then.  In the winter of 1990 I killed my first deer with grandpa's Ruger .44 carbine, and I know I had the .410 before then.

My minds must be gone I voted 1980 and forgot I got my fist gun at 10 from my uncle. It was a Italian war rifle from WW2. That places the poll response at 1971ish. I started buying guns at 16 first being a remngton 700 BDL 243. But pistols my dad gave me a colt target revolver at 13 it was a 38 from the NYPD he said "don't get caught carrying it".My dad grew up during the gangster days in the 20's and 30's he would not hesitate to shoot anyone. I miss my dad he passed in 1980. I even had a webley 1915 MK5 I sure miss being a kid.

My first gun was a bubbaed romy, and since then I've bought a Glock 22 and a Remington 870, with and emphasis on durabilty and functionality. A Mosin Nagant 91/30 is next on the list.

I trust BB and pellet guns don't count.

was gifted a 16ga Ithaca M37 pump shotgun at 10. purchased my first at 12 or mom purchased for me, still have it a 12ga Ithaca M37 deluxe pump shotgun. took a little more then 3 months paper route money to buy it. thankfully you could buy a box of 25 shotgun shells for about $1.25 back then.

Pete, no political motivation just wanted and could afford it.

1974 when I got a Remington .22 semi auto as a birthday present. Bought my first, a 30-30, when I was 17. Then you just needed to be 16 or older to buy long guns.

My folks bought me a Rem 580 single shot 22 when I was 10, in the mid 70s, I used it before I was old enough to get a big game license when dad took me along elk hunting and shot rabbits .  I still have it.

Since BB guns and Pellet guns don't count, my first was a Stevens Bolt Action .410. Parents gave it to me for Christmas around 1945. I was eleven at the time and hunted rabbits and squirrels outside my central Oklahoma hometown.  My Dad was a Policeman for many years so a loaded .38 revolver was always around the house. My younger sister and I were taught gun safety by him and it was never a problem.

Many guns of all sorts have passed through my hands in the intervening years. Now I am divesting myself of those I can no longer use because I can no longer hunt. The SKS fever is implanted and strong.
