Greetings all. It has been quite a long time since I posted anything new up here, so I figured I would post up about my most recent project.
I have been planning an extended mag release for quite some time for my own personal build, and if it came out the way I wanted it would become a regular inventory item. Well, not only did I finish it, but I think it is more than bad ass enough to offer as one of our products. I have yet to determine final pricing, but I hope to have that figured out in the next day or so.
The release itself is machined from billet 304 stainless steel. I am personally not fond of brazing or bolting things onto a firearm, so I wanted to make a release that not only looks like it belongs on the rifle, but functions better as well. Here is what I came up with (hopefully the pic links work)...
EDIT: After doing all of the associated cost calculations I have the pricing information for this extended release. The one pictured was a custom for me, so the bottom lettering will not be on the final production version (unless ordered that way at an additional cost). For an identical polished stainless extended mag release, minus the bottom text, will be $27 plus shipping.
As for the suggestions for blued or black oxide steel, I have considered that and unless a "group buy" gets set up, it is not cost effective. The lot fee for black oxide plus shipping would be about $150 on my end. If I only send 10 that would add $15 more to the cost of the part, making it much higher than I would like to be at. I can do anything custom, but at the end user's expense. To make it make sense financially for customer pricing I would need to make at least 100 and that wouldn't make sense business wise on my end having all that inventory. I could make them in raw steel and the buyer could blue them themselves I suppose.
I am going to go ahead and make up some in the polished stainless that is pictured and see how they do. I am only going to make a small run to start so if anyone is very serious about getting one send me a message and I will reserve one for you. I would expect them to be ready next week some time.
/EDIT
Let me know your thoughts. I am pretty sure this is what the final product will be, but I am always open to suggestions, and as always, any customization can be performed as well.
