WTF -- Doesn't anybody want to work anymore?
LESchwartz:
Several years ago, a stoner slammed into the back of my Dodge Dakota while it was parked on the suburban residential street in front of my house. The impact was sech that the rear corner of the bed was toast, along with the driver rear tire, rim, and leaf spring. After repairing the tire, rim, and spring, I discovered the impact also took out the drive shaft and cracked the transmission case. The drive shaft was replaced and the vehicle is drivable and we've been using it as a "farm truck". My son and I are thinking that his girls will be getting their licenses soon, and the truck could be the perfect vehicle for them -- after all, even if they total it there would be very little loss.
I've been online looking for a replacement transmission, and last week located two that seemed like they would be worth the time to swap in. I called one yard outside of Chicago and navigated through their phone system and tried to leave a voice mail on every mailbox they have (even ones unrelated to the "parts department") -- each and every mailbox is full. Another yard in Kansas was supposed to get back to me with a total (tranny, plus freight) but never called me back and is now ghosting me . . .
WTF! Doesn't anybody want to work anymore?

I suspect they only like to handle large bulk orders. Individual orders are probably considered small potatoes and not worth their time.
I encountered this years ago when I required to get three quotes from a vendor before I could order anything where I worked. About a third of the Sales reps never returned my emails or phone calls requests for quotes, which surprised me, thinking they would want to be hustling to respond to any opportunity make a sale to increase their commission. I mean, here I am offering them the chance to take my money to buy their stuff, perhaps become a repeat customer, and they don't care.
Onepoint:
Short answer is no. Centuries of market capitalism work ethic destroyed in a couple years of mass govt handouts coupled with generations of indoctrinated education systems. Most businesses can't find employees who are willing to work, no matter what they pay in their professions range of wage, and when they do hire someone, many times they are not reliable.
We as a country are going to be in for a harsh reality check.

The auto parts world doesn't have large bulk orders . . . I suspect things are more like your second paragraph.

It doesn't stop there either. Employees are making pennies when employers are making dollars. The modern worker typically needs two or more jobs to afford to live and they're getting worked to death. Gone are the days where one wage earner could work 9 to 5, have a home, family, and time off to enjoy it. Greed is one aspect, laziness is another, and then we have the weakening dollar/inflation/global economy. It all comes into play for a large **** sandwich that kids don't want to deal with, not that modern attitudes are better. Most folks hear something more than clicking a button a couple times won't solve an issue and they're gone. It's not just workers that don't want to work, it's the whole country it seems.
