I had a lung infection and I went the doctor's office on base and told her the problem. I said I'm having the same symptoms when I had a chest infection in basic training, and I've been coughing all day for a month. She told me I had allergies, and I said that I've never once had allergies in my life and that I really thought it was an infection. She said "Well I am not giving you antibiotics."

Frustrated, I left the doctor's office and went online and started searching survivalist boards about how to get rid of infections without antibiotics. I found out that antibiotics can be bought on the internet without a prescription. This is what I bought:

http://www.fishmoxfishflex.com/index.php/fish-mox-amoxicillin.html

This stuff is the exact same pharmaceutical grade amoxicillin pill prescribed by doctors to humans. It's even marked the same on each pill. It was $21 for a bottle of 50 pills including shipping to my door, which took an agonizing five days. After 48 hours, I started noticing an immediate difference. After five days, the cough was gone. I took 10 days' worth of pills just to be sure it would be completely gone. I still have over half the bottle left, and I have dessicant inside to make sure it stays dry. It will have a shelf life of another two or three years with close to 100% effectiveness.

Later, I called up tricare and had them change my primary care manager (doctor).

I just wanted to share this information with anyone who also may have the same frustration with quack doctors.

Oh, and I don't buy into the hype of "antibiotic abuse" or the scare story about all bacteria becoming resistant, especially in light of the new drugs Merck is coming out with that zap 95% of all previously-resistant strains. The FDA needs to get out of the way because they are holding up progress.

Antibiotics do good and harm. You end up with secondary infections after use. And yes, they can result in drug resistant strains. Luckily at that point you've killed the majority of the non resistant strain and your immune system has an easier job.

Just a word to the wise. Allergies can start suddenly. Up into my late 20s I had zero allergies. All of a sudden they hit one year and hit HARD. Your body changes as you age. My allergies were nothing short of horrible for about 4 years and now are barely existent or minor compared to the breath choking and sand in eyes mess that they were.

Antibiotic resistance is not a scary bed time story, it happens.  Antibiotics are way over used.  The more potent antibiotics to fight the resistant strains have some serious side effects.

Viruses and bacteria are also living organisms like we are. They mutate and carry certain traits. By killing off the non resistant strains or those that don't carry the resistance DNA,we essentially genetically engineer them in our own bodies by using meds.

All things evolve like that. Viruses and bacteria just do it much faster due to their ultra short life spans.

No offense, but I'm not interested in debating whether or not there is man-made antibiotic resistance. I think it's an overblown problem, the same as man-made global warming and Y2K. The point of this post is to get the message out there for preparedness and preppers and self-reliant people that you can get antibiotics without going through a doctor. And that's a good thing. I don't think there should have to be a bureaucracy involved for every little thing like there is in the USA.

Oh and by the way, the more dry you store it, the longer it lasts. I read that it will last up to three years and retain about 80% effectiveness up to that point if you vacuum-seal the bottle. After five years, it will have about 50% effectiveness, so you'd have to double the normal dose for amoxicillin (which is 250 mg twice a day).

You won't be doing anyone any favors if they take the stuff like a cough drop, and when they get real serious infection it won't touch it. Use any drug as a last resort IMO.

Good for you and that's fine for yourself, still makes bad advice IMO.

I think its ok to use every once in a great while if you cant see a doctor or there is no other option for you. I would risk building an immunity rather than not taking anything. Didnt sound like he was taking them like vitamins. Just sayin. I dont think hes telling everyone to scrap the doc visit and go online.

OP, there are a lot of good members here willing to give sound advice. Many of them have learned their lessons the hard way.

No one said you have to follow it, but be nice, give it some thought.

The same goes for this advice.

Just a though, here, Amoxocillin is free with perception, if not less than $10 a bottle...and that's talking, low-to-no coverage, trip to Doc-inna-Box, or free clinic. If the money was the driver for your purchase, you got hosed and possibly put yourself in danger.

Its my backyard I can dump toxic waste there if I want to! Lol jk .

That said Ive been dealing with docs because of back pain from being rear ended, some of them suck. I was telling one how(at the time) I coundnt turn my head to check blind spots, he says"buy a new car like mine", then starts bragging about the blind spot warning system his new car has! I was kinda pissed.
