Panzo- Are there any good aftermarket items for the carbine? Such as improved sights? etc.....

Kind of, but the factory metal sights are very adequate for the capability of the carbine.  On the TS version, you have the ability to put on a rear BUIS (like a magpul or similar) and a rail mounted low profile sight but you will shorten your sight window.  You could also use a replacement rail mounted rear sight and adjust the factory front sight to the rear, there is quite a bit of vertical adjustment in the factory front sight post.

I agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I have nothing against Hi Point.  Actually I glad they are around.  They are just not my cup of tea.  In the 90's when they came out with the carbine, a bunch of my friends bought them.  Heck they are only $99.00.  I had my Marlin Camp 9 and happy with it.

At one range session several of these friends magazines broke when dumped on concrete.  That made an impression with me that I never quite got over.

You like your hi-point, great, I'm happy for you.  I'm quite happy with my S2K and my Marlin Camp 9.

I'm going to call BS on the mags breaking on concrete....They rarely even drop free if they are empty ...But seriously, yeah the mags are the weakest point of the hipoint design, they certainly are not "combat" mags.

If hipoint made the mags they'd either break the concrete or would hover over it due to the concrete rejecting them.

Someone would make a killing making Hipoint factory spec 8-10 round mags from slightly thicker gauge steel.  Almost all malfunctions with the C9's are mag related, although I have had good luck with my mags over the years.  I'm betting if you heat treated the mag bodies, it would cure mag issues.  The steel is very malleable (prone to bend easy).

You can call what you want.  I watched 2 just shatter the base plate, and the third crack the base plate.  As I said this was early in their production so maybe there were issues that have been corrrected.  I don't know I'm just posting what I observed.

Friend of mine says that the Sub2000 9mm that takes S&W mags are hard to find - back ordered/out of stock everywhere.

The glock ones always had a premium on them and were out of stock.

Yup, that's why I was able to trade a refurbed one even up for an unfired M&P-15 AR. Big difference in retail price at the time but when someone wants one right away and they have to wait 12+ months on some order list or play the hit or miss auction game it can sure work to your advantage. I felt a little like I was taking advantage but they made me the offer and were thrilled with the trade so it was a win-win.

On the Gen 1 Sub 2000 as long as it was not the Glock version it could be converted to fire any of the other models could be changed.  It's a $7 part from the company. if you are handy can do it with youtube videos or any  gun smith should have been able to do it. That's why glocks are usually the ones to sell out because it that or nothing. I don't know if the Gen 2 have that functionality. I can't buy them in NY. Mine in Beretta was grandfathered when I registered  it.

Yeah, registering, bunch of BS, we have that in CT too. I would have had to register my Sub2000 here if I had kept it and they can't be purchased here anymore. I decided to sell my AR rather than register it (it was ok but not my favorite gun anyway) and those cannot be purchased here either. My SKS Sporter didn't need to be registered since I took the thumbhole stock off of it so I will hang onto that. Hopefully I will be out of CT in a few years and I just hope wherever we go we it won't turn into a nanny state once we get there. We like Maine but I fear anywhere in NE is destined to turn full commie before long.

It was a really tough call I did not want to register it but I really like the gun.  Its my main home defense gun and for where I live feel it is good choice as a bug out gun as well.  If I can ever get a pistol permit It will pair nicely. So I really did not want to sell it.  I was in a shop a couple of weeks ago and I saw a guy sell a Berretta Storm in 9mm that was not registered and he only got 250 for it. Granted his brother gave it to him but still that is a really low price.  I obviously did not want to register the gun.  I believe in civil disobedience when you feel a law is unjust, however, the other part of that is passively accepting the consequence.  In New York its up the prosecuting DA discretion as to go for a misdemeanor or felony weapons charge.  I'm a CPA if I'm convicted of a felony I loose my license and my livelihood.  I could not take that chance.
