Romanian stock on Russian internals possible?
« on: May 16, 2016, 09:54:28 PM »
Well, browsing around this forum.. naturally the Romulan SKS built on Romulus... huh, I mean Romanian SKS caught my eye. I haven't seen one on the dozen Canadian websites I bookmarked (nor have I seen Albinos, chicom, nor Yogi bear ones.. Canada is all about Ruskies!

I have a Russian '54 SKS; is it possible to take a Romy stock and gas tube (or even just a stock) and fit it with all the Russian internals?

I figure, if my Rusky is already refurbed, what does it really change to put a nice wooden stock from a different country really matter? It'll be a bastard SKS, but which SKS isn't in some way anyways right?

Either that, or if anyone could point me to Canadian seling SKS's from another part of the world that isn't Russia??

If that's it in your avatar and sig, and it's #s matching, leave it be, it's a beaut, even refurbed. There's no sense in cobbling something up that doesn't need it. Just me sayin, PAX

My SKS will take that as a compliment everyday of the week!

I do like my stock. But I am very interested in owning a few different ones as well. I got the SKS bug it seems...

Yes, everyone needs more than one flavor. Like the song says "one's too many, and a hunnerd ain't enough". Those laminate stocks are purdy.

My question still stands though.. does anyone know if Romanian (or pretty much any other Country'stock) will fit other SKs internals?

That was a horrible way of asking a question. I have a knack for destroying sentences... ahem, let's rephrase that;

Are all internals compatible with all stocks?

Mostly interchangeable with these general exceptions;

Later Chinese short lugged and pinned barrel stocks can be made to work (if that's all you have).

Yugo's are a little different I've heard (no 1st hand experience).

Albanians are creature all their own.

Why Romanian, do you have a source? Most Romy wood has a bit of a worn appearance to them. PAX

Nah, I've not yet noticed any other SKS' but the Russian ones for sale in Canada. I'm just curious. I figure if ever I was to notice a stock from another country, I might want to snatch it out of my impulsive nature, just for the thrill of having a "rarer" specimen.

why romanian? Well, I'd go nuts for an albanian stock, but with such few produced, the stock alone might be more than I'd be comfortable spending. As for the Romanian; going through some pictures in the Romanian section, I've noticed a few stocks that peaked my interest. Curiosity. Just the "wow" effect. Guns bring the kid out in me

Romanian SKSs are basically identical to Russian SKSs. A Romanian stock should fit a Russian just fine. There are no laminated Romanian stocks like there are laminated re-furb Russians. Interestingly, in the heyday of Romanian imports in the States, there were a lot of "cracked stock specials" sold cheap. Some were cracked in a noticeable way, others were cracked and arsenal repaired and just looked bad. Some had the most minor of cracks or none at all that you could tell.

This is my Romanian for reference:

If there are guns in the room - one of them had better belong to you!
