This Romanian SKS Has Me Wondering
« on: August 25, 2016, 12:12:16 PM »
I ran into a Romanian SKS and other than a non numbers matched bolt it is an otherwise totally numbers matching rifle.
EXCEPT the stock has an anomaly,It has the serial number stamped correctly in the correct place and in the proper size font,BUT,it also has another serial number from an earlier serial number rifle in much larger font stamped on the stock horizontally right by the vertical matching number.Seems kinda strange to me.
All I can figure as a reasonable explanation is maybe the arsenal or armorers disassembled several rifles at once and put a different rifles bolt in my rifle and then placed my stock on a different rifle when they assembled it,put my stock on another rifle and stamped that ser.# on it so it matched. When they discovered my rifle was still there they switched the stock back to my rifle? Sounds funny, but it's about the only reasonable explanation I can come up with.

Could this Romanian have made it into East Germany?

During 1990-1992 crisis in Moldova, formerly Romanian territory, Romania supplied the Moldovian Police a few old weapons.
The Russian separatists were more numerous and better armed. They and Russian army prevailed. I have read over the past that
it is thought many of the Romanian SKS we see came from this conflict. As Romania was armed with modern weapons by this time frame. Of course, these weapons were either surrendered to the Russians or sent back to Romania. Heavily used andf became surplus.
I stock bobbers and sheepdog.  Hey!  Someone has to do it!

I figured I'll put my question in this thread. I found a Rommy at a LGS last night, but haven't seen it up close yet. Don't know if it is a #'s matching gun and Probably isn't. My question is whats the value on a non matching Rommy ? heres a pic

When the SHTF you better already have it at hand, because it won't be on the shelves when you get to the Wal-Mart land.

lf that's a  $425 tag, it would be a very good deal, all else considered. If you can beat him down (or he'll ship to Kali  :?), better still. They're holding close to Russians. Looks good BTW. PAX

Went this morning to check it out, and ended up buying it for 450 OTD. All #'s matching except for the stock, which has been sanded down to the nub with no marks at all except for a small  5 digit no. behind the receiver end. Pics.

This is the tool in the kit that was in the stock. I've never seen this tool before, is it Romanian?

Nice get!

That's an AK cleaning capsule kit. No problem. SKS capsule kits are easy to find at the gun shows.
