1959 Romanian
« on: June 04, 2017, 11:39:50 AM »
This is my Excellent (close to Unissued) 1959 Romy, serial number GN1150. With what I think is the proper sling for it. All the numbers match and the bore looks mint. My brother-in-law has offered me $400 for it. Is that a fair offer?

If its all matching ---If I had that gun , I would not sell it for less than 600.00. And that would be a bargain.

What LG said. BIL, get the money up front. My ex-BIL still owes me for 2 cars a bunch of utility & rents. Couldn't let my nieces suffer and he knew it. PAX

That's a nice looking rifle. If you don't really need the money, I wouldn't let it go for the $400 unless you just feel like doing the guy a favor.

Sub standard SKS are going for $300-350 unless it's bubba's of course. Then it's worth much much more.

Even a mismatched Romanian is worth more than the standard all matching Chinese in similar condition. In that condition,  mismatched Romanian will sell north of $450-- and that's not including the Romanian sling.

An authentic Romanian SKS slings sell anywhere from $60-100 depending.

The hand guard and the stock appear to be stained in differently. Do the gas tube and piston serial numbers match too?

I love the grain on the stock. It's much nicer than the blotched shellacked birch on Russian SKS. Is that elm?

Let me put it this way, if you put up an ad on this board selling that for $400 you'd get an "I'll take it" within 10 minutes and about a 20 person deep line of people on a waiting list.  That would be a fair price for a mismatched gun with no sling.  Add $100 for the sling.  Add another $100+ for matching, add more for the condition.  I concur $600 would be a bargain, to someone who knows what it is on Gunbroker I could see $700 or more

The gas tube matches, haven't checked the piston. As far as wood type, I would imagine beech or birch (or whatever the Romanians used).

Out of curiosity, why is the sling so pricey? I bought it at a gunshow maybe 15 years ago and I think I paid $10 at the time.

How many have you passed on or seen since then? They're rare, although I did score on one for $15 a couple months ago (not stamped though), rummaging through my non milsurp savvy LGS junk bin. Romy leather, Romy AK, Chinese SKS, Ishy cloth, & Olde Hunter basket weave for $45. PAX
