I've had the opportunity to evaluate my latest acquisition for the last couple of weeks & really like it. It is numbers matching & in very good condition with excellent bluing & a very nice stock with only handling marks. It appears to have been lightly fired & was very clean except for lots of cosmoline in the trigger group, which was disassembled & cleaned with installation of a Wolff 31# hammer spring.
It has the best as issued trigger of any SKS that I own, originally breaking cleanly with little creep & neutral engagement at 6.5 lbs. After cleaning it, installing the lighter hammer spring, polishing the sear engagement surfaces, & applying a little moly lube, it now breaks at just over 5 lbs. The machining of the receiver, bolt carrier, bolt, & trigger group is better than my 2 Russian rifles.
It also passed the all important (to me) No-Go gauge test. It also came with its original "dog collar" leather sling which is in good condition & cleaned up nicely with an aloe based leather cleaner/conditioner. A Murray's firing pin has already been installed & I look forward to taking it to the range next week for sighting in & function testing.
The last pic in the 2nd set of pics shows interesting proof marks in the forend finger groove which I believe is unique to the Romanian SKS
