She doesn't belong in the closet!
« on: November 26, 2018, 08:40:59 PM »
Hope this is the right place to post this, but I pulled my Chinese SKS out of the closet this year and took her deer hunting. Gonna try to add some pictures.
Now I remember one of the reasons why I bought it back in the 90s: It's a really nice gun! When I put it away, I had put a Tasco scope on a receiver cover mounted rail on it. I really didn't like it. When I pulled it out this fall, I took the scope and receiver cover mount off and went back to stock. Felt much, much better looking down that barrel.
Still, my eyes aren't what they used to be, and it's a long way from my eye to the stock rear sight, so I added a techsight TS200. I love this gun! Only other thing I did was plug the 10-round magazine so I can hunt legally with it here in Michigan. No plans to do anything else with it. Don't need to turn it into something other than what it is: a ground pounding, working man's gun!
Though I do need to clean up some surface rust or left over cosmoline you'll see in the pics. Don't remember that when I put it away!
Comments welcome!

I wish we Pennsylvanians could hunt with semi's, but noooo, we can't be trusted in the woods with em' cause "it would be like WWIII".  :banghead: Oh well, anyways, in my county we are allowed to blow them to smitherines with shotgun pumpkin balls....its more humane [-o<
Even thou you put a gun in a gun case and put it in a closet, it is still susceptible to moisture and humidity. I would suggest, after you clean up that surface rust, to coat it with some Ballistol. I use it on all my guns, and I've never had a problem with rust, but I don't put them away in a case in a closet. Instead I dedicated a whole room in my basement for my work bench and a wall size gun rack, with a dehumidifier to keep the moisture down to moot. That way, I can walk into my gun vault, rub and admire all my guns equally, and spend some quality time with each of them.  \:D/
When the SHTF you better already have it at hand, because it won't be on the shelves when you get to the Wal-Mart land.

No venison yet  :( but there is still time. Plus we have another late season gun hunt this year 17DEC - 1JAN for anterless. State is trying to get a handle on chronic wasting disease and thin the doe herd a bit.
You are right Dino412. Need to take better care of her.
