BEACHBUMWITHAGUN: a 1957 is a good one. is your serial an AA or AB? what parts match? looks to be in great shape.

Why AA or AB BBWG?

Why AA or AB BBWG?

I have been collecting romy dates and serials for a while now trying to figure out their system. 1957's started with AA1-1957. they seem to go to AA5000-1957 then change to AB1-1957. by the time they changed to the BC's they were 1958's. the earliest data for a 1958 I have is BC45x-1958. therefore his 1957 should be AAxxxx-1957 or ABxxxx-1957.

the Romanians seem to have changed their system 4 times. I have been trying to collect more numbers to figure out where the changing points are. when I get more data I will post the results.

my romy's, auctions and board members have been my source of data.

I have a 1957 dated Romanian SKS that the ser. no. starts with a DE.
I have another DE ser. no. that is a 1958.

The 1957 has a lower number then the 1958.

interesting. that is the second misfit of numbers I have heard of. the other is a GN with a 1959 date where others are 1960?

I have 7 DE's on the list and they are all 1958's

maybe I should start a thread asking for numbers. might help us figure their system out. cases like yours is why I have not posted results yet.

if you would send me your numbers it would be helpful. goes without saying last numbers x'ed out is OK.

My receiver, TG, stock, and Mag are in fact DE-8XX.  My bolt assembly is FE-27XX and my gas cylinder etching is difficult to make out but totally unrelated PSDXXX.

Any suggestions on care for the stock?  I know it's sealed well- while hunting in the rain the drops beaded nicely, but I want to take care of it and I feel like there's a lot of build up hiding the stocks beauty.  However, I don't want to alter the stock by refinishing, etc.  Definitely a newbie question (this is my first rifle), but the only way to stop being a newb is to ask and listen, right?

Joe thanks for the info. your serial is only 200-300 off Fraggers 57 DE. hopefully as I collect more data the answer will show itself. as of now the way these numbers fit in the DE sequence I am thinking someone did not change the date when they set the serial. looks like they picked up on it somewhere between 1100 and 1800. heres the other DE's. let me know what you guys think.

DE8xx-1957
DE109X-1957
DE1792-1958
DE2854-1958
DE4433-1958
DE4841-1958

my guess is that your gas tube is PS0xxx. I have 2 all matching rifles with serial of PS005x and PS007x these have no date.

Theres are the numbers off my mis-matched 1958.

BC 3162
BC 3583

Pretty close match, huh?
