Back from the range session:
Spent yesterday afternoon at the range with another buddy, his adult sons and my three 10mm pistols. Their conclusions were a lot harsher than my I had after my previous trip. After 250 rounds, here are some additional observations:
1) Megastar -- All three of my guests panned this pistol. Complaints about the pistol included the long trigger pull and unusual safety. All three suggested that for the price these go for, they expected a lot more. Still there's no denying that the Megastar looks to built for many many thousands of rounds of use.
2) Witness -- All three of my guests liked the accuracy and ergonomics of this pistol. They also liked the fact that the steel pistol helped tame recoil and should enhance durability (in addition to the Henning guide rod improvements). Their only complaints concerned the price and the lack of a decocker.
3) XDM -- All three of my guests loved this pistol, including accuracy and ergonomics. With this pistol being the least expensive, they especially bragged the value about the value. All three made unsolicited comments regarding the lack of a manual safety and how they would prefer this when in an emergency situation confronting four legged problems in the woods. Can't say that I blame them, as it would be one less thing to worry over -- especially in contrast with the Megastar's safety.
My conclusion: While the Megastar has some nostalgia for me seeing that My late father always bragged up his, I can't justify the investment in a pistol for the sentimental value. I'm pretty sure this one will have to go up on Gunbroker. As for the Witness, the jury is still out: While I like the pistol, the lack of a decocker is a mild irritation for me. One thing for sure, in a head to head comparison across five different users the XDM has earned a permanent place in my collection!

PS: I still think I will need to try the heavier recoil spring in the XDM as recomended by Frisco Pete.
