First hand forged blade
« on: December 11, 2019, 11:15:29 PM »
So I've been into historical swords and knives for awhile, and I finally got my forge set up to consistently bang out projects.  This is my first hand forged blade- a seax utility knife with an antler handle and a minimal leather and mild steel bolster.

It's mystery steel- probably medium carbon based on the sparks.  I'm leaving the errant hammer blows and grinder marks in the finish to remind me where i started.  I like the rough finish, so I might blue the blade until the bevel line.
It'll be a Christmas bingo gift. Why not?

Here's to many more projects and improvements.

Thanks, guys!   Forged in Fire costs $8000 to enter, and only one member wins the $10000.  So if I start up Druidcraft Ironworks and am selling so many blades that I can afford the publicity cost, I'll probably just try for the ABS test.
