Hi again - Re the Tapco '51, I left the wood handguard on since I don't want to use the pic-rail that came with the Tapco. It would block the irons. I have some bits of pic that I may mount on the sides to add a lite or a dot. Or maybe just use the barrel mount for these.
I cleaned it a bit more after the range trip last week, using Hoppes Cu cleaner and BoreTech C4 Carbon Remover. I used an 'all-brass' brush often and ran over 30 patches in total, finally cleaning residue with 90% alcohol then a patch with light oil. I ran the borescope and could find NO Cu or C marks.

Will be going out soon to see if this makes groups better or worse. Got a bunch of Chinese milsurp to 'season' then Barnaul to check accuracy. The 3" group last trip was with Barnaul SP, after 40 rounds of Czech milsurp from 1969. I'm planning to save the rest of the Cz for the Zombies and just fire Chinese for the paper. The local BassPro doesn't carry any 'good' x39 like Wolf or better, so I stick to Milsurp since I clean my rifles often anyway.
The other '51 that I sold in March was
SN HA 18XX. I had used solely Czech milsurp in that one, CT was selling it on stripper clips in the blue boxboard wrap for $3 Q- -each. I got 30 of them, all that store had left. Then some paper packs of Cz for $4.99, got about 30 of those, too. Both rifles were bought thru Canadian Tire stores, the HA- in Halifax in 2015 and the Tapco in Fredericton about 2017.
On the first '51 I had mounted a Barska Dust Cover mount & 3-9x scope combo. I adjusted the 'ears' to make it 'super snug' and it held zero to the best of my shooting ability. Still only 4-5" at 100
Q - The question I alluded to in the other post is about "Logs" for the Russian rifles . I see references to these for some of the Yugos and just wonder if there is any corrolary for the Russians. This may have been lost during "the Fall", but may exist somewhere ? Any records of distribution of rifles ?
In any case, thanks for reading thru this babble, hope you got some amusement or info from it.
