NoytaCCCP: Is it too soon to draw any conclusions about the relative scarcity of 1955-dated Ruskies? I have a vested interest in this, as mine is one of the four that have been registered so far.

Is your '55 a refurb or non-refurb? I can't tell from Noyta's list. If it's a non-refurb, then you are 3rd on the list of rarity, just under a '49 and '53 Izzy non-refurb, according to 800 Russians I've surveyed. The data I gathered does not take into account SKS's sold to Canada, FTF sales or sales from any other website beyond Gunbroker, so take that information for what it is worth.

If your SKS is a '55 refurb, it falls so far off the list to be insignificant as far serious value is concerned. Perhaps, $25-50 over premium of a regular refurb, to the right buyer.

Just keeping the thread active.
Note: I added maximum (highest) serial number per Cyrillic letter range.

A link to basic summary results:

SUMMARY STATISTICS -- SKS SURVEY

Again, once the database grows in size (200+ responses), I will begin attaching more interesting comparisons... looking at multiple variables, like year and arsenal by physical features, cyrillic code, etc.

RUSSIAN SKS SERIAL NUMBER REGISTRY

*****************************

CYRILLIC CHARACTER PREFIX/SUFFIX PIVOT TABLES

The first tab provides a pivot table that indicates maximum (highest) serial number per Cyrillic character ranges that have been added to date. Over time, the sum of all those numbers will hopefully indicate production numbers.

The second tab provides a pivot table that indicates total number of occurrences per Cyrillic character range.

LEGEND
The "*" symbol separates a prefix from a suffix
The "T_" and "I_" represent the arsenal

There is some "blocking" occurring, but the database is way too small to start drawing any conclusions around prefix and year patterns.

Regarding suffix, the only conclusion I can draw so far is that they are limited to 1954 Izhevsk and 1955/56 "letter series"/"no date" Tula.

I put my 49 in the registry before I registered here last night. It was there but in an odd location, to the left of the year. Now it is not there at all. Did I screw it up? Should I re-enter the info? I don't want to mess up the registry.

Indy, he'll get it fixed for you. I also PM'd him about your SKS as it is very rare and should definitely be included in the data gathering.

Hi all;

Rest assured that the '49 was entered correctly and is part of the database. It is one of two '49 Tulas with a Cyrillic character prefix: "EM". Therefore, it will show as a "2" in the "Number of Occurrences by Cyrillic Letter Range" pivot table.  In addition, it has a lower serial number, so it will not appear in the "Highest Serial Number by Cyrillic Letter Range" pivot table.

Please also note that when an SKS is first entered into the registry it is temporarily placed in a blank year category until it is reviewed for completeness by me first.  Call it "quality control" if you wish.

Cheers, Noyta

I don't know how to read the graph but I am pleased my gun is a part of the study. :) I think this place is going to have a bad effect on me. I am already wanting to buy more Russian SKSs.

OK, I cannot find the Russian letter for the first one in my prefix on a 1949. Beneath is the importers letter which is a L. But it does not match your selection.
