Interesting, but does the Ak need an adjustable gas system to be reliable? Note that it's a milled receiver.

My guess is a cleverly modified Norinco hunter.

I do too. It's been done. I had a pic on my old computer that I stole off the internet because I wanted to build one of my kits into one. THEN I sold my kits. Check out FAL files-the pick still may come up in a search. There's a guy over there whose handle is Meeper who did the conversion. I spoke with him on the phone, and he had also converted SKS's to 5.56 and 5.45, but although he does nice work, he was just too rich for my blood at the time. I decided to stick with SKS's and AK's.

If that is an AK (the reciever definatly is but the barrel/ gas system?) then it doesn't just have Fal funiture, that is at least a sight block mod, if not more.

FAL or AK?
« Reply #11 on: December 05, 2005, 01:40:44 AM »
I have both types of rifles. It looks to me like an AK with some FAL furniture, and a FAL front sight and gas tube. That's a FAL style pistol grip, modified version of the FAL handguard and front sight / gas tube. I don't know the origin of the bipod or muzzle brake / flash hider. The magazine is a 20 rounder, probably Hungarian.

The reciever is milled, but not a Norinco "Hunter". I have one of those too. The "Hunter" has an angled reciever. The angle is towards the front of the reciever from the magazine well to the front trunnion. Like the Galil.

Hats off to the creative firearm enthusiast. I like these kinds of projects. It's definately a Franken-AK, but I bet it still functions well.

It looks angled to me, but you're right I forgot about the Galil style narrowed receiver and its not angled enough.

Sorry man, but I find that hilarious. The AK-47 was actually a working model in 1947...hence the "47" in the name..while the FAL was in development in 1946. So how do you get "Modern" out of two rifles from the 1940's???

You know...I've had one of those "epiphany" things...

What many need is a EVERYTHING gun.

Something that has/takes AK, AR, HK, FAL and maybe some other parts.

Then, one gun gets you certified membership to all gun forums & discussions. And, the merits of more/other crank-on doo-dads can become  perpetual discussion.

Lollygagger  :D  (Excuse me...I've got to go get Creedmore sights, a Shutzen trigger guard, and, Gras bayonet worked out for my SKS.)
