Real Fighting Shotguns
« on: December 16, 2017, 08:41:03 PM »
I tossed my idea to Mr. Gould about him making metal butt plates for a couple of my fighting shotguns, after all an up close and personal fight one should have every option available to them.  Eric said he had done this in the past and would take on the project for me, and per usual Mr. Gould did an incredible job.
The Remington 870 wooden stock was pretty straight forward from what he said and this butt plate is a magnificent fit, I was going to paint them black but the 1/4-5/16" aluminum is so beautiful I just can't bring my self to cover them.  I stressed that since they were fighting shotguns and if I ever needed them for what their purpose is then them being pretty wasn't concerning me in the least but they are indeed beautiful.
My Mossberg 930 is still in a plastic stock because I haven't found a wooden one yet, and Eric pointed out that he would not be able to put the 1/8" lip and ingress into the stock like the plastic and rubber butt plate had.  He offered to refund my money but I told him I had confidence that he could make it work and when I find a wooden stock I am hoping to just bolt it on.  I have to tell you that the unit came out very good and once screwed to the stock it is a good-very good fit.  I will say I expect no movement even though the recess is not on the metal butt plate.  My guess is if I ever have to use that for the intended purpose it will not budge when going up against bone and soft tissue, no doubt this butt plate will dominate any such encounter.  I will post pictures when I get a chance, I'm just so excited about this improvement to these fighters I had to post this.
Once again Eric you have done excellent work for me and I appreciate your efforts and expertise along with a more than fair price for the job.

Eric I shot the 930 today and the butt plate works f'n great!  This is a brand new shotgun and this is the first time I've shot this thing and put about 100 rounds through it, the butt plate did not move at all so the fit is very good.  I don't even think I'm going to have a black n blue shoulder, still think I will put the pu**y rubber pad on if I use this shotgun for a class though.

I apologize for the super delayed response, but that is great news! I am glad they worked out well!!

I wish I had more time to be active on forums. The shop is so busy I hardly have time to do any extras online. Glad I stopped in to see this though!!  :)
