DDI Hungarian stamped underfolding ak47
« on: April 25, 2016, 11:44:57 AM »
Hey guys, I have a ddi under folder that I wanted to share.  I know there's been a lot of hype online and a lot of people asking about ddi so I wanted to share my experience.

I ordered two sequential under folders from AIM earlier this year, model 47U stamped Hungarian.  The first rifle (201) was terrible... Had to be assembled by a monkey.  The carrier rode all the way back and popped out of the rails when you charged it. The dust cover was ground down on one side providing a crooked fit.  The folding stock impacted the furniture, it was just bad. Long story short, AIM refunded me for it.

The second rifle (202) is the focus of this post.

Out of the box the rifle felt great in the hands and looked nice, very black from the kg coat.  The action is so ultra smooth that it's surprising.  Everything is perfectly straight and the stock folds with precision.  All my mags lock in and feed 100% except for the 5 round Chinese ones. They are very difficult to seat but feed perfect.  The fit of all the parts is extremely tight with zero rattle or play. There is no WW branded parts and the rear trunnions plate seems to be the original Hungarian. I've seen others with a WW plate or DDI branded plates there.

Only the bolt, carrier, and dust cover are numbered original and matching. The trunnion has no numbers.

I've shot close to 1000 rounds of wolf HP with zero malfunctions.  It feels great to shoot and cycles smooth for an AK. It shoots very accurate for an AK also. The only paper I've shot was at 30 yards and it was putting multiple rounds in the same hole from a rested position.  I was nailing gallon jugs at 100 and 200 meters no problem.

They say they take pride that they shoot and sight in all rifles at DDI.  That obviously doesn't happen if rifle 201 made it out for sale.  I also had to sight in the second rifle, it was way off.

I love this rifle and often toss it in the truck if I drive out into some of the more rural areas here in KY.  I recommend DDI just make sure you inspect the rifle first.

normal looking wear patterns.
The finish is holding up pretty good.

The bolt doesn't have any deformations.

I was referring to the first rifle I got in the post.  It was terribly put together. So bad that they refunded me for it.

Ha, I didn't pay attention to your first one. I was more concerned about the functioning one! My only beef is that it does tend to ride on the hammer. I may work on the hammer or let the hammer work on itself. It seems that it's a non-issue.

It certainly gets hung up on the hammer.
This is supposed to be flat, right?

Mine does not hang up but I was considering doing this.  After about 2500 rds I see a small peen starting on the safety nub.  I am going to replace the surplus spring and grind the hammer to correct it before the peen gets bigger.  Thanks for the link.

I like the century hammer, has a better profile.

Hey brawny,  also check the fit of your dust cover.  Sometimes the carrier can drag on it causing them to be more prone to hang up. It should not contact the carrier at all.

Welp AKBLUE, I know what I'm doing tonight.

Meshuggah12, the cover is fine. it is not showing any wear and does the same whether the cover is on or not.

Polishing the hammer worked. I can't even make it hang up now.
