Closest we can get to owning an AK in Canada, unless you`re willing to shell out 14K for a Valmet M78

One thing we are jealous of down here, is you guys still can get Chinese stuff.
Experience is the hardest kind of teacher, it gives the test 1st and the lesson after.

Courage is knowing it may hurt and doing it anyway.
Stupidity is the same.
This is why life is so hard.

Yeah it does suck. However I watched a interview awhile back with some AK experts, one was Russian speaking about the current state of Chinese AK’s. They claim that they are not the same quality as the American imports due to Canadians not being as fussy as the American market is. Not sure how true that is but he ain’t wrong about Americans being a tad bit fussy when things don’t run 110% out of the box.

The type 81 is not an AK as far as our Federal Police are concerned that`s why sks`s and type 81`s are allowed(for now) into Canada. Ak`s are of a type select fire converted to semi, because of that all converted select fire guns went from restricted to prohibited, can`t be used or owned, had to be sold out of country, destroyed or deactivated as of 1998, when I was told to dispose of my AK collection, still hurts.

The type 81`s are semi only and share no fire control parts akin to AK`s though they look similar they`re not. Mine ran fine right out of the box, and with the mods and scope, it shoots remarkably well.

Now on the other hand many moons ago our gov`t bought in a load of Valmet M78`s which are Finish AK`s, these were bought for the Northern Aboriginal people  as it was thought they`d be better suited cold weather rifles. These are grandfathered and are legal to own and hunt with but no spare parts other than cannibalizing other guns. How ever in light of whats going on here in Canada, I recently saw one sell for $14000, a few yrs back they were $800-$1200 rifles.

When the first real gun grab happened in the 90`s I lost half of my collection, AK`s and variants even my AP74 armi jager 22lr AK look alike, and all my FN FAL`s converted select fires and semi only rifles. And Now recently, all my AR`s, Our country sucks, I`ve lost a lot of coin over all this BS.  :banghead:
Any way, Canadian history lesson over...
