NOS Taurus...Had to have!
« on: January 19, 2023, 06:37:03 PM »
Well, I'v had an eye out for another old model 941 for a few years now and with some arthritis settin in threw my right hand thumb, heavy caliber shooting is clearly on the down hill side of things. The 3" 941 is a dandy little gun thats easy to carry but again, mastery of the fine S&W style adjustable sights is not getting any better either! So, the only thing to do is obvious. Get another gun. Maybe women cant understand my reasoning here as if its Rocket science . Everyone knows its sight radius that makes a $642 dollar OTD buy well worth the expenditure.  8)  Saw this on GB and snagged it. A 5 incher. The gun has zero evidance of ever being fired. The end shake and barrel cylinder gap is perfect. The high factory polish is surprisingly well done for a Brazilian gun. Hand fit & polished guns are fading fast from the market. The only thing I hate about it is the new style hammer with that key lock. The spur sits low behind the hammer squared tip edge and creates a battle between the checkered spur and that tip edge biting into your thumb. "I've not shot it but intend to do a full range report with chrono between the 3 and 5" tubes. With the extra weight in that lug, I'm guessing off hand accuracy should be decent. This will be my woods guns when I'm out and about in my 22 acre wood lot.

Thanks JJK, I might be a tad more picky about the machining quality than others and historically, the older Taurus handguns were a 75/25 gamble with the fine points of their construction. The Hammer in this gun is cut horribly but fixable. The action is sprung heavy but with a nice S&W quality single action pull. Nothing a little spring tweaking can't bring around.
The 22 JHP Mag holds some first hand fascination with me from the days when our Prison WTO and a couple of us after training had a field day shooting at the new big bucks Bullet resistant plexy like glass panels that were the new windows to the main sally port key control and arsenal room.  Obviously, 50BMG went threw it like it wasn't there. All 45ACP bounced off like it was made out of rubber. One of those bouncers went past my lower leg by about 6 inches as I stood way back from the shooter. 38jhp's were also bouncers. 357's would burry into the plexy lumping the opposite side. 22 mag in every bullet style would also burry in the plexy but not lump the opposite side while all LR's bounced off. These were hand gun hits aside from the Barret 50. Along with an old guy I knew once that had me put a new FP in his Marlin 57M. This guy would shoot deer all year long and claimed that 22mag dropped at least some 1000 deer out of his hands since the gun was new. I thought he was full of it but the hammer bite on the bolt around that broken FP told a story of a great many firings. He told me he just aims behind the shoulder as usually done with any rifle and the JHP would dump them every time. Tall story? I checked with a neighbor on the claim and they said that old man was raised on home supplied venison for 70 some years.  I never shot a deer with a 22 mag but I have no doubt it would perform if need be. If I could choose only one cal to survive on, its the 22Mag. Plus, standard vel 22 LR's will shoot fine in a mag chambering and even some 22 Hi-vels but those are iffy with cracking cases. Back in my shop days, I sold a couple S&W651's and 48's. Today, those guns are more than double what I paid for this clone. And they only have a paltry 6 rounds! I'll take the 8. An Eight is called the death number in the mystical arts. How appropriate......
